Keep it indoors, tucked up with slippers and a blanket, next to the fire with a lovely hot mug of coco.

Thumbs Up

Heat the key up on the gas hob first. Then try it in the lock. Start it on choke and let it run for a while.

I found a hot water bottle applied to ignition allowed me to get my key in this morning (despite the bike having been covered overnight). Once the key was in, full choke and a bit of determination was required to get it started. It's mornings like this that I recall my previous (fuel injected) Varadero fondly.

I'm selling my bike this morning and it won't start, bloody typical. No issues since the day I bought it, been sat for a few days and now won't do anything.

I've got it sat in my hallway next to the radiator, hoping to god that this warms it enough to start before the guy comes to collect.

It sounds like it's just about to start and then it just dies before the engine gets into it's cycle. No idea what to do about it!

Charge the battery, if its sat there doing nothing its more than likely eaten its life away. My GSXR has been stunning with the battery since I got it. Left it for 3 days and it wont even power the heated grips Laughing

I did charge it, no problem with the lights and things- hi-beam as 'bright' as it usually is. Managed to get it going with a little bit of prayer, must've just wanted a warm environment for a little bit.

My trusty ZZR thankfully started nicely this morning. Had to bump it last night though because I left the heated grips on all day. Embarassed

I have heard that if the battery does go flat, even if you charge it, the cells inside are already damaged and wont hold charge again (properly) Had to buy new battery. (This was information given to me by an RAC geezer, few years ago), although this was on my Car

Unsure if its the same on m/c's

If I turned up to buy a vehicle and the engine was warm, I'd walk away. Shocked

Before I sell bikes I usually take them for one last ride, but a good few hours before the sale so they can see it starting from cold.

Can't say i've ever had a problem with a bike not starting due to cold. Usually it's just a case of wipe the snow off the seat, and the bike is ready to go.

In the evening after getting home I shut the engine off and then slide the choke lever halfway on - I've had the lever frozen solid before and I couldn't get the poxy thing started. Since then never had an issue :)

I haven't used my bike at all since last Friday. Went to start it today. It started first time with the choke on, bit died after a few seconds. Couldn't get it to start after that. Battery was turning the starter motor, but it just wouldn't get going.

It's a 2001 GPZ500. I'm guessing I just need to take a kettle of water to it (carb area?), and it will then start up. Can't imagine there's anything else going on.

My bike has been starting fine this week, even though its all covered in ice. I'm actually quite impressed given that its a run down GS500! Laughing

Mine has started on the first touch of the button every time since I got it. Today, took about 3 seconds before it started, really was freezing this morning.

Amusingly my clutch was frozen solid this morning, I'm guessing it was the actual basket and plates as it freed up perfectly within a minute of the bike starting thankfully.

I remember when I was sitting my lessons. It was January and was really freezing outside. The bikes (mine, other guy and our instrctor's) needed fuel so we pulled into a petrol garage.
We couldnt get the fuel tanks open on any of the bikes, so then my instrctor decides to bring out her cigarette lighter right in the middle of the petrol garage and decides to heat the keys under a naked flame!!! Shocked

Cue us being thrown out of the petrol garage and not being allowed to fill up there! Rolling Eyes

My work mate's bike is the luckiest, he has an integral garage and the boiler for the house is in there, just by his bike.

Jealous....

Go to the local supermarket. Buy pasty and newspaper. Impulse purchase deicer on way out.

Squirt deicer onto ice, eat pasty while making pithy comments about newspaper. Admire deiced locks. Repeatedly forget to put troll faces into photobucket.

WD40 or ACF-50 in the locks will stop the water building up in there and if it's not there it can't cause problems, oil the sticky cables too.

I stripped/cleaned/greased the lock on my dads car 4 years ago and it has never frozen since Thumbs Up
