Hey,

Quick question regarding the sizing of helmets across a brands range. Basically, my head fits a Shark RSI size medium. However, can i now assume that all medium shark helmets will fit my head regardless of its design (s900, rsx, visionr etc)??? I ask because if people can validate that theory, i can bypass going to a shop and get some deals online as i like Shark.

So, does your head fit the same size branded helmet regardless of it's design?

Please note, i am not asking whether a size medium will fit me for all brands of helmet. (shoei, arai, shark etc)

Afraid not.
And more confusingly, in some cases I believe the same model and size helmet will have a different shape when sold in different markets too!

Was afraid that might be the case. I remember going into a shop once and being told "i only fit helmets if you're buying....we have too many people coming and going to buy online for cheaper" I don't want to be that person as i like supporting the retailers...but hmm.

Oh, right, and trying to blackmail someone before you even have their money is a great way of building customer loyalty. Doh!

I'd go ahead and assume that every helmet manufacturer is just slapping their label on products coming out of a few Chinese sweatshops, and that they'll chop and change supplier at the drop of a lid, so I wouldn't even trust that sizing remains constant within the same model over the years.

On the other hand, the Distance Selling Regulations have no provision for sellers refusing to accept returns on safety grounds. They should, but they don't. I've never received anything in the post that even complies with the (strict) terms on supplying return information. Feel free to buy and return, you might have a struggle but you'll get your money back eventually.

Shark Helmets in my own experience have consistent sizing across their entire range probably because they are not like many helmet brands i.e. made in a plant in China with different decals for different brans. They are made in France. I have a lot of helmets because they regularly get stolen.

S800 -
RSR -
RSR2 Race,
RSR3.

The only iffy one was the S500 which maybe because it was heavier but didn't seem to sit on my head right, so I bought the RSR2 Race instead. Though the chin bar does not always sit the same distance away. On my S800 you could lick the chin bar. The RSR's you could almost feel it on your tach'.

The bloke in the shop was quite serious i suppose given he knows how much he's being undercut...this was down in brighton tho and i'm a londoner.

The thing is, i'm was more open to buying second hand off ebay. I know alarm bells will ring with some of you, but i was aiming for those rare gems where the seller has clearly owned it for next to nothing, has receipts on show etc and willing to let it go for half the original cost. I may however pop to J&S who probably arent bothered about me trying on a few helemts and walking out without purchasing...hey, i might even buy some bar ends just to show some loyalty (and i could do with some). You see ages ago in my bewildered stage of not having a clue about all the gear, i walked into a shop with a £150 budget for a helmet and walked out with a £290 Shark RSI race helmet. When i think about that it makes me laugh that i didnt just walk out and go to another shop with other brands, but at the time i simply thought i was going to the only shop around me....now i realise there are 3 within a 5 miles radius of my home!

The helmet i was looking at was the Shark Vision R. Reviews seems to suggest its a physically bigger, but that may just be the outer shell and not the inner where the head fits into. Interesting to see you've had a constant good fit from the same size., good to know.

I like supporting retailers also, but my current dealer wanted £400 for my Shoei which I purchased off the internet for £269.99.

Only other alternative is to go to one of the bike shows.

Since Google already puts this thread on the first page of "shark helmets made in france", I feel compelled to ask on what evidence that statement rests. Wink

That they aren't some mass produced churned out things like Nitros GMACs etc

Bad framing of the sentence.

Should have been. I have owned a lot of shark helmets. The reason for this is that I have had to replace them frequently. Not due to crashes but due to theft.

I haven't worked for a retailer of shark helmets for a couple of years, but I remember the polycarbonate helmets were made in portugal and the fibreglass helmets were made in thailand, and the thai made fibreglass helmets didn't fit like the polycarb ones
