It's either:
1. Further away from the router than the other devices (i.e. a signal problem). Test for this by sticking the new laptop right next to the router and trying again. If this works, let us know.
Or
2. A settings / driver issue on the laptop (with what you've described my money is on this one).
Recommend you
a. Plug it into the router via ethernet cable and look for an updated version of the driver for the wireless card (if clueless, check for Windows updates, it'll be in the optional updates if you're lucky). Particularly relevant for Atheros wireless cards, as explained above.
b. Then delete the wireless network from the list (on Win 7 its Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Centre > Manage wireless networks - and then right click on the network name in there and click 'Remove' and then 'Yes').
c. Then start setting up the network again and ensure you get the password right.
d. You'll hopefully be online by now. If you're not, then you need to go back to the Network and Sharing Centre, then go into 'Change adapter settings'. In here you will see a "Wireless Network Connection". Right click on that writing, and then left click on 'Status'. Then click on 'Details'. And then give us all the information in that little window (specifically, we need the IPv4 address, the default gateway, and the DNS servers but if in doubt just give us the lot via screenshot, and we can help you further). This is the same sort of information as is available via the ipconfig command others have already mentioned, but it is easier for you to pick out those relevant details for us.
Good luck ____________________ -- Ingah |

If you run: | Code: | | ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig_all.txt |
in the command line then it will save the output from "ipconfig /all" in to a text document located at "C:\ipconfig_all.txt" so that you could easily post the whole thing if anyone needs it.
As for the actual solution to your problem - I'm getting no ideas at the top of my head. Have you tried rebooting the router though? I know it seems simple, but it's fixed a similar problem for me before. (New connections couldn't connect, but people already connected were just fine.) ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |
