Ask what the damage was, then inspect that area carefully, take fairing panels off if you have too. If it was fine I'd buy it. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

I gave my 05 plate away to a mate as I would have thought I would only have got a couple grand for it, 3k seems a bit high to me. ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "

Thanks guys, this will help a lot.
The seller is asking £2999 for a Cat C 05 zx6r with 19,700miles, Yoshimura exhaust, R&G Crash bungs, tail tidy unit as well with FSH. But you have shown me some nice bikes for cheaper or that one with the 06 plate for £3500
To play devils advicate, if the bike looks and runs fine and is mechanichily sound its a bit of an arse that a black and white print on some worthless paper will drop the price a hell of a lot, no? I mean heaven forbid your bike gets written off as cat c and the damage was cosmetic and nothing else what a bastard it would be to sell because of some DVLA print stigma...
I dont know it just makes me wonder whats the point of it all if theres nothing wrong with the bike. But as they say "its a buyers market" so I will have plenty of fun exploiting this or buying a nice yello K4 gsxr...ooh gets me wet! |

I wouldn't even buy it if it wasn't a CAT C at that price. I've seen loads selling for £500 less than that, wil the same specs that aren't a CAT C.
Thing is the seller is waiting for people like yourself to come along, who think that it doesn't make any difference and part with the cash because they've fallen in love with it.
Bottom line is, accident damage vehicles can be a mine field, some are repaired using the cheapest parts available and can be repaired/ bodged to a very poor standard, but LOOK fine on the outside.
Others can be repaired using OEM parts etc by a dealer and actually be no different to another bike that hasn't been crashed.
The problem is, unless you do it yourself you can never know the extent of the damage and how many corners the person who repaired it has cut, so this is reflected in the price and if you find any nasty surprises you can repair the bike (usually) for what it would have cost you to buy a non accident damaged one.
A friend loves accident damaged bikes because most people won't touch them, but he used to repair them for a living so can tell pretty quickly to level of detail the bikes been repaired to, so he can pick up a perfectly good bike for a LOT less.
Personally, my opinion is there are plenty more bikes out there for better prices as has been shown above.
Go, have a look at the bike if you wish and if it looks okay, offer him £2k, walk away at anything more than about £2.2k. You'd be amazed at how much people will budge when the cash is waved in their face.
Please, for god sake listen to the advice people are giving you on here, and don't make a 'rash' purchase, because it sounds like buyers like this one will see you coming a mile off, and next we'll have a thread titled 'my new bikes going to cost me £1500 to repair', what do I do?'
My 2p's worth anyway. ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.
