More than enough grip!
Last year, and the year before, I had the YZF450 out in the snow numerous times.
The first time, I wasnt sure how I'd enjoy it, so rather than spending out on MX wheels, I just bought some 17" knobly tyres from ebay, and stuck them on my Supermoto rims.
Wasnt the best setup, but it worked for a bit until I got round to buying a 21" front and 18" rear.
Grip was fantastic. Enough to wheelie even!
(Not me in the pic by the way)

Enough for a bit of fun? |
Its great fun. When the snow is on the ground - head out !
If you can ride through mud, then you can ride on snow. Having a light bike helps, easier to manoeuvre.
Decent knobblies would probably help, but on many occasions just used trail tyres which are 50% road 50% off road, and was great fun for a few laughs.
Ice usually sends you sliding but fresh snow is ace ____________________ 1988 Kawasaki KMX 200

It does rather depend on the snow, how deep, surface beneath, etc.
If it's not that deep, then often decent knobs will just cut through anyway.
For deeper, I got as low pressures as I dare. Too deep and fluffy and you'll still have issues.
Definitely worth giving it a go, however .
Spent ages doing some really nice 'drifting' on my Sahara 3s on the 690 in the old work car park - just enough grip at the front and just not enough at the rear . |
