I'm in Bristol now (down here for college) and it seems that no one can drive in the whole city!

Yes I Can.

It's those 7 webbed toe'd Londoners that seem to have problems with filtering.

Having moved to Bristol from Glasgow it was a bit of a shock how bad the driving was there.... indicators are just pretty orange decorations on the car (either that or the stalk is broken off so they can't use them), there's no such things as speed limits, the only way to get out at a junction is to floor it and close your eyes, red lights are only advisory etc etc

Most of the things that get done on the roads in Bristol would get you stabbed in Glasgow, my way round it was to become a bus driver Wink

So what happened to inspire that epiphany? Very Happy

Most drivers, whether 2 wheeled or 4 are crap in Bristol Very Happy I watched some idiot kid on scooter try to filter in between two buses the other week.

Made for great entertainment! I think everyone on the bus was collectively thinking 'DIE.'

Mr. Green

P.S. I totally can't filter either xD But then I'm too wussy to try half the time.

Drove through Bristol at the weekend, one question; What the heck were they thinking designing the roads like THAT?! Pretty much every roundabout / junction I crossed was so poorly designed as to be downright dangerous.

Note: Small chance that my TomTom is just a cunt. Laughing

Living in Bristol the roads here are designed dreadfully, that's for sure. At heavy traffic times there are several 'hotspots' that lead to half an hour to hour delays for people in cars and the council basically refuse to acknowledge that these exist, instead deciding to work on other stuff that doesn't need changing. Rolling Eyes.

Having only recently been to Glasgow, I have to say the driving in the city is probably some of the best I have seen! Speeding not seemingly a problem, plenty of distance between cars, and a good dose of courtesy to match! Heading up on the bike in May and have no fears for my safety at all!!

Total contrast to the fucktards in Newcastle U Tyne!!

Visiting Brizzle tomorrow, I'll keep an eye out.

To be fair i've seen some bloody aggressive filtering in Bristol many times. Though it's always been cyclists Laughing

You really must congratulate whoever is in charge of planning in Brislington for a right royal fuckup of all thats been done there.

The callington/airport rd/A4 junction and the extension of the road rage inducing 2 lane into one leaving town by the park and ride.
There is sure to be a murder there in the near future

The thing I don't understand with Bristol (it may be in other cities too), but they have started putting pedestrian crossings on the exit to roundabouts the lights seem to have a mind of their own changing to red when there isn't anyone in sight.

I was in Bristol briefly this evening.

I was shocked by the motorcyclists driving aggressively and then as soon as there was any traffic they sat behind cars revving their engines.

I remember you. You're that courier chap I caught up to in Clerkenwell, had a quick chat to and showed a clean pair of heels to because you can't filter Thumbs Up Twisted Evil are you from Bristol as that would make sense?

You might remember I slowed and waved you past as I had done my job and saw you as being a courier needing to get somewhere.

You recognised my business name and stopped for a chat before getting on while i trundled off for fuel and a maccy d's breakfast.

But yes, there are many bikers who seem to just sit in the traffic faking filtering but that happens everywhere. Damn people getting in my way.

Yeah they're shockingly aggressive.

I worked in the center for a while and on my shift nights I would have to drive through at rush hour. Scared the pants off me but it was one heck of an eye-opener!

There's a multi-lane junction of doom by Temple Meads leading up onto the Bath road and I used to watch bikes racing in between the *moving* cars as the lights changed and was amazed I never saw someone get punted off when someone hopped lanes.

You could be writing about anywhere in the South mate...although I do think the driving is at its absolute worst in the Chichester area... (an area where the roads are owned by men in big expensive fast cars, going nowhere fast in the queues of traffic on the A27 there). Rolling Eyes

It's a traffic calming measure; by making the roundabouts unnavigable, drivers are scared to drive in Bristol again so they don't come back. God I hate driving in Bristol, I've only ever tried it once on a bike. I'm sure there are worse Cities to drive in but driving in Bristol always gives me a tension headache.

you get used to it eventually.... treat everyone like they treat you on the roads... car, bike and bus... actually when I was driving the buses I never EVER lost a game of chicken Twisted Evil

For anyone that knows Bristol well, I managed 30mph across the downs on a Saturday afternoon..... double decker bus, traffic coming towards me and me with my eyes closed most of the way.

To be fair if you live in Bristol and aren't a stressed out bike courier trying to get back to the smoke asap it probably isn't imperative to be a 'demon filterer.'
I think traffic conditions in the south west are somewhat different to the start stop shittiness of congested London roads so you'd probably be happy to stop for a second or two in my opinion rather than filter constantly which you pretty much have to in London.

Bristol is certainly a challenging city to work your way through but ive been in towns and citys throughout the UK that are far worse..took a group of 26 bikes from Aztec West in the North all the way through the middle and on down to the A370..negotiated the city no problem and all stayed together.
Bristol is not that bad...try London,Birmingham,Leeds or Manchester Confused Very Happy
