Just wasted £16 on a game I used to love playing back in the day. However on my current rig things wouldn't start.

https://s14.postimage.org/uhe5kztan/F22.png

Tried the Properties/Compatibility/Run this program in compatibility mode for (tried all the options there), still get the same thing.
https://s10.postimage.org/kxridzxnb/F22_1.png

Any software I can use to sort this out?

What's the game?

I might be able to help, plenty of experience doing that shit.
Why wont it work? - Errors, jsut not running etc.

I upgraded my GPU and found i couldnt play UFO aftershock anymore due to pixel shaders Sad

If all else fails you can try a virtual box

Oh, didnt see those screenies.

You're doing the compatability wrong. You set it to run in the compatability of what it works in, eg. if youre on win7 and the game doesnt support win7 and is an XP game, run it in compatability for windows XP, not windows 7 (Jah get me dawg?)

It's a 16bit app so its pre windows xp it seems?

What's the game?

Also right click run as admin, fixes some problems, looks to me like thats the setup.exe not the actual game. You should still be able to install it regardless of 32/64bit unless it has some weird override which disables installing on 64bit....

But that screenie of it being like /??/setup.exe
looks like its wildly confused....did you actually buy this game or is it weirdly mounted? o.O

If its that old its actually 16bit then you'd be better off in DOSBOX Mr. Green Thumbs Up

Tried them all, not just XP. All from the drop down menu. Result is always the same.

When I got it I played it in Windows 95, Pentium 1, 16mb RAM.

*ahem*

It's a very old 16bit game, so yeah it wouldnt run on windows without emulation. Get DosBox, it's confusing so you'll be back here asking how it works in no time Thumbs Up

Also you've paid £16 for a game that's probably abandonware by now....

Quick google says nope. Not abandonware, people must still like it Thumbs Up

I'm going home from work now, maybe check out https://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=320322

Yeah, that's what I did. Somehow managed to run my old Vista laptop, installed the game on a USB and it's running now.

Just annoys me that a better OS wouldn't run an old OS's game.

CE??

Game is currently crashing non stop. So, to put an end to my suffering I've decided to bring my old laptop to life with a fresh XP copy. Problem solved.
Have a load of other pre-historic games I'd love to have a go at again so it will save me a lot of trouble.

32 bit app with 16 bit installer? 64 bit can't run 16 bit code, if it's popular someone is bound to have written a 32/64 bit installer for it.

Normally only the installers are 16 bit, app will probably run fine under compatibility once installed.

I've successfully used Windows Virtual PC 2007 in the past; it isn't supposed to work on Windows 7 but it usually does. The only annoyance is that you've got to install the games as OEM's unless you can figure out how to run them from the DVD/CD drive, which is more complicated than it sounds.

Some old games just will not run on Windows 7 at all but most games made for Windows XP can be made to run with some tweaking.

F22 ADF was around when Win 95 OSR2 was all the rage, it's hardly made for XP.
