After the cool slating my 106 got when I posted about it ~2years ago (bought for just £126), I thought I'd introduce the newest of my growing collection:
306. 1996 1.9tD, for a further grilling.
I'm quite impressed with this to say it's bigger, cost less and is more 'road ready' than "pip" (yeah, an ex named it, ok?) was.
Thanks given to G for neutrility
Specs:
306, 1.9SDTD(sedan) in dark red, no tax or test but I had it towed back, and started it, no mechanical issues at all so it's booked for MOT on wednesday. Alloys were with it, as was a half tank of fuel and it cost £95.
Bad points:
No tax
No MOT
N/S rear light cluster cracked (new one ordered saturday off ebay)
Alloys apparently don't exist, no tool to take them off.
Immobiliser was jammed on, without a masterkey - this is pre-keypad model but after much research overnight sunday I discovered that there was a way to get rouund it without any hacking or mods to the main parts of the car/engine.
Good points:
It's a running car, for less than £100 and worth more in parts than I paid.
..oh, and insurance is only an extra £200 on TPFT given the engine/power increase with 0NCB

OK cars these.
First thing you do is an oil and filter change, then the timing belt, only this time, get someone who knows what they're doing to work on it ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

No, but it depends on what needs doing.
The parts are relatively cheap and, if you know what you're doing (or, in the OP's case, know someone who does) then it's not a bad car to get back on the road.
They suffer from a few known faults, but the fixes are very well documented and pretty easy to sort; once done, you've got a decent performing, fun handling car, for next to fark all. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

solid engine get the boost and fueling turned up and they can be fun cars. you may aswell of drove it home though as towing it with no mot and tax is just as illegal unless you used an a frame as a minimum.
chris | Noted, I think you're right, there was only 1 'user' key so i'm getting another cut - reckon a master would have avoided all problems with immobilisation.
I won't be attempting any big jobs on this, I'd had the 106 a while and been through a lot with it, still not managed to call the scrappy to get it weighed in..
It was towed on a bar, all proper like, didn't want my old man taking any risks.
Cheers, il update Wednesday when the tester gives a verdict.

Pretty solid cars though, and can't complain for the price you paid. | I won't be running it on oil if it has a Bosch pump, tried messing with it from barrels before and it's time consuming, since it's more than a litre of diesel out of the shops for oil it's not worth the effort. Unlike some idiot in chat said, saince I can weigh it in for more than I paid I reckon it's a tidy little bargain as long as there's not real work to get it through an MOT - previous owner said he'd used it for a few month last year and got a new car (saxo) but I reckon the immobiliser issue forced the car change. Tax ran out in Jan iirc so it's been used recently. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Quick bump:
https://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg6/scaled.php?server=6&filename=20120229210210.jpg&res=medium
There was 2 more; 1 wheel missing a nut and 1 wheel has tyre wrong way.
Parts are already ordered, less than £40 total, £40 for MOT.
The alloys have a locking nut which is an oddment and was missing at sale, so I ordered one for £2.50 today, comes tomorrow so by Sunday it will be ready for a retest and taxing. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. It's the black plastic arm that snapped, there's a ball-joint affair at the top of it and it split at the ball, to the point where you can wiggle it freely in your hand.
As noted, 90% of the parts are now en-route. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |
