After the cool slating my 106 got when I posted about it ~2years ago (bought for just £126), I thought I'd introduce the newest of my growing collection:

306. 1996 1.9tD, for a further grilling.

I'm quite impressed with this to say it's bigger, cost less and is more 'road ready' than "pip" (yeah, an ex named it, ok?) was.

Specs:

306, 1.9SDTD(sedan) in dark red, no tax or test but I had it towed back, and started it, no mechanical issues at all so it's booked for MOT on wednesday. Alloys were with it, as was a half tank of fuel and it cost £95.

Bad points:
No tax
No MOT
N/S rear light cluster cracked (new one ordered saturday off ebay)
Alloys apparently don't exist, no tool to take them off.
Immobiliser was jammed on, without a masterkey - this is pre-keypad model but after much research overnight sunday I discovered that there was a way to get rouund it without any hacking or mods to the main parts of the car/engine.

Good points:

It's a running car, for less than £100 and worth more in parts than I paid.
..oh, and insurance is only an extra £200 on TPFT given the engine/power increase with 0NCB

it can only be a post key pad model, the keypad was on all the early 306's then dropped in favour of transponder keys.

solid engine get the boost and fueling turned up and they can be fun cars. you may aswell of drove it home though as towing it with no mot and tax is just as illegal unless you used an a frame as a minimum. mot will likely throw up at least one wishbone bush and droplinks, they are both pretty much yearly occurrences on all 306's but cheap enough to fix.

oh and don't even bother tying to do the timing belt on it, it's a shit job at best, very straight forward to do but absolutely sod all space to do it in and having seen you struggle with your 106 gearbox it wouldn't end well for you.

overall for change of £500 with mot and tax there will likely be another 5 years cheap motoring there, just keep an eye on fluid levels

First thing you do is an oil and filter change, then the timing belt, only this time, get someone who knows what they're doing to work on it

Any idea which fuel pump it has? With the right fuel pump it can run on cooking oil, if you can find big enough quantities at a cheap enough price.

Pretty solid cars though, and can't complain for the price you paid.

towing with a bar is still illegal if the car has no tax, mot or insurance a bar is only legal for moving a broken down vehicle that is road legal if your missing any of the above 3 it has to have a minimum of 2 wheels off the floor. having said that i have bought and driven plenty of cars home that have lacked mot or tax, the insurance is a no go as the guaranteed 6 points you'll get if your caught just aren't worth it

There was 2 more; 1 wheel missing a nut and 1 wheel has tyre wrong way.

Parts are already ordered, less than £40 total, £40 for MOT.

The alloys have a locking nut which is an oddment and was missing at sale, so I ordered one for £2.50 today, comes tomorrow so by Sunday it will be ready for a retest and taxing.

whatevers wrong with the rears shouldn't matter, new cylinders are about £10 a side and shoes £20 so just replace the lot in one go and be done with it not worth messing around at that price

Sounds like a good result although I have no idea what a tie bar is and if its expensive.

tie bar i would say is the drop link between the suspension strut and anti roll bar, there pretty shit as standard cost about £20 a pair and pretty much fail annually, removing them can be interesting and usually involves levering the ball joint off then using a grinder to cut the rest of it off. id be seriously worried if it was a track rod end that had fractured and he'd failed to notice

Tie bar does not normally mean track rod end, i think he has used the wrong description for an anti roll bar link arm. Not sure why when track rod end and anti roll bar link arm are both listed on the computer.
You will be able to see whats fractured anyway and im sure it will be the link arm as usual.

It's the black plastic arm that snapped, there's a ball-joint affair at the top of it and it split at the ball, to the point where you can wiggle it freely in your hand.

As noted, 90% of the parts are now en-route.
