I've downloaded approx 6000 books for Ayasha's via torrents, so they're definitely out there. Top-class stuff too (classics and suchlike). ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

There are a lot of free stuff (old copyright). These are available from a number of places including Amazon (do a google).
You can also use pdf files for books that in that format (there are even utilities to convert into a better format/layout for a kindle). You can email these direct to your kindle too (see instructions).

Wow, thanks chaps, there's certainly a lot out there.
Books I don't object paying for - For £5-10 a pop I get many hours of quality entertainment which seems very good value to me.
I can see myself being dragged into the murky world of downloading for nothing, films etc I can do without batting an eyelid. For some reason, doing the same with books makes me feel slightly uneasy |

Plenty of places to acquire books as stated above.
I use Calibre to convert/organise/rename books, really useful if you have a big library to manage: https://calibre-ebook.com/ |

Got one for my birthday 2 days ago, trouble is I have 2-3 paper books I still haven't read from xmas, so I've regressed to having a toilet book, bed book, and misc book, using the kindle for bed reading, only transferred a couple of PDFs over at the moment, will look into that Briss as the layout isn't ideal for scrolling, liking it so far though.

Project Gutenberg carries loads of stuff that's out of copyright in the USA. I'm not sure that it's all out of copyright in the UK, but as we know, the USA is all that really matters. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Thanks for the pointers everyone
I did download a huge library of books but ended up deleting 99% of them as I couldn't see the gems amongst the chaff that I would never read.
Unfortunately my Kindle hasn't arrived yet but it's giving me time to sort out some ebooks.
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Ted Simon's Jupiter's Travels (for free)? I'm about 70 pages into the paper copy but would like to switch over to the Kindle as soon as I get it and don't fancy paying another £7 to get the e-copy. |

Got Kindle, 'tis awesome. Calibre is awesome too.
Is it worth spunking £50 on the case with the light? I had a look at some cases in Currys today without a light that were £20. The quality was crap - I'd rather spend an extra £30 for a decent case - at the moment I'm using a jiffy bag
The web browing is surprisingly good, a bit clunky but free data in foreign lands makes it a winner. |
