My girlfriend has had her Heine Gericke bike cover taken twice in one week, so she’s a bit worried about what they’re up to now. It’s a 1979 Suzuki GP100, without the massive chain and padlock it’s pretty much a push bike, so I’m wondering if they’re being deterred by it.
The cover is one of those £15 ones with the seat belt type lock underneath the bike. It can’t be blown off, so it has been taken. No visible signs of tampering from what i can see, no mucking about with the ignition.
What would you guys recommend as a further deterrent or perhaps something different?

She has a personal rape alarm she’s never going to use. It’s a small 8 x 2.5cm device with a pull string to set it off. Maybe i could mount it to the bike and cover some how Thinking

Get like 6 of the rape alarms and attach the strings all over the inside of the cover so when someone pulls it, a huge amount of noise is generated, they will get the picture and run off and probably won't come back.

Obviously pics of the girlfriend are required.. to determine she has indeed bought the correct cover Wink

Cable tie the rape alarm to the footpeg and run the string down to the seat belt type bit on the opposite side (tie more string if needed) and when they unclip it... shazam, bikes being raped. Laughing

Buy a cover that you can lock to the bike with the chain you already lock the bike up with.

Confused, have you lost more than one cover, or the same one twice? Confused

If it's the same one where did you get it back from?

My money would still be on the wind tbh, my cover has been around the world (well the garden at least!) this last 2 weeks despite being fastened under the bike with string and bungees.......

I think you’re right, i need to make sure it is the first thing to go off if you try and take the cover.
Thankfully nothing done yet, i think they might be waiting for the night it’s not locked up.
It’s a pretty invincible lock on there but the chain i imagine isn’t much for a decent size bolt cutter.

Paddy, you post a piccy of your girlfriend showing how to attach the alarm to the bike. Thumbs Up

I had a similar issue a long time ago and solved it by putting the cover on first and then putting the chains on so the chains were clearly visible.
I had two chains for each bike.

Worked for me Thumbs Up

seems to be going around, I've had two go in the last couple of months. I think it's more the bad weather than people looking to steal the bikes. Thank god for lidl! And also worth mentioning that one of those covers was locked to the bike so I guess they cut it off!

Replace bike with replica made entirely of rape alarms and twiglets.

Put cover over trap and retire to house.

Fill in time by photographing naked bike wearing jim jams.

Thanks for the tips guys. I think i'm going to use this mini padlock i have as well. The cover attaches with a seatbelt type fitting, so i think i can make it work. The alarm with be on with heavy duty Velcro that i’ve bought.
The cover has been off for a day or two now, no tampering with the bike at all.

Tape a "BIKE FOR SALE - NON RUNNER" notice to the cover.

Now no-one will want to steal it. Thumbs Up

Frankly I'm amazed nobody has come up with the most obvious solution, which is to get rid of your girlfriend and upgrade her with one that doesn't lose bike covers Thumbs Up

the 'bike for sale - non runner' idea isn't actually that daft. If it's made to look cack it won't get stolen.

had this first hand when my old house was burgled. Cleaned a lot of the place out, didn't touch my pc, it looked crappy as it was in an anchient crappy spray painted case. Inside however was a very very pricey collection of components.

Also I reckon it was a spooky ghost that stole the covers...was their ectoplasm on the bike at all?

A photo of the bike in your living room with you and/or GF on it wearing jimjams or a jaunty hat would help.
