When I accelerate hard my engine is stuttering and jolts. It seems to be getting worse and my rev counter has a mind of its own. Its also backfiring and popping. Any Ideas as to why its doing this,as it getting dangerous when I pull out of junctions now.any help greatly appreciated

I would check the timing, could possibly be a fault in the ignition system as it is backfiring and popping. Reed valve might be buggered?

Change the spark plug first though.

It is factory set and cannot be adjusted as such, you will need a timing light to check that it is correct, sorry I can't remember off heart what would cause it to be wrong (wait for kickstart to arrive Smile)

Oh and if it is reving randomly perhaps check for an airleak, make sure the rubber intake manifold is not split, and spray WD40 around the base on the gasket to see if air is getting sucked in. You will need to remove the carb and the manifold to check the reed valves.

i agree , any of these problems come from , sparkplug (try a BR9EIX from https://www.sparkplugs.co.uk ) , carbon or badly timed RCvalves , tired reed valves (try bue-oil carbon set) . you may check in this order , avoiding to lost money for nothing . by the way using an EIX sparkplug will save 1/2 to 3/4 L each time you fill up .

I think that my dad checked the timing(used to be a mechanic) using a light thing and said it was alright.
And I thought Honda's were supposed to be reliable Rolling Eyes

It just seems that everything is going wrong at once, like my indicators not flashing, speedo drive breaking, exhaust falling apart, general electrics dodgy! Evil or Very Mad

Get a new relay for the indicators, about £2. You can pic a speedo drive and exhaust up cheap on ebay, even buy a whole wiring loom cheap. NSR's are not hard to fix, there is hardly anything to them really Smile

The NSR is a reliable bike, in 8 months I've not had any problems with mine Smile.

Just one thing, how would he get mud in his fuel tank?

by low quality petrol , especially when you fill up with the bottom of the services tank or when the % of humidity in the petrol is high . what i will recommand is to clean carb and tank every year .

you're wrong because the power tricity is provided by the alternator , but it could be possibly a faulty regulator . this is easy to verify , if you your engine start normally with the starter , your battery is fonctional . but if after several starts you have not any more power in the battery , the charge is not working , and as far as it does not charge your ignition will not work either
