Guys, i might have an issue. or i might not.

basically, i removed the generator casing on the revere, and there was oil in there. being a bit of a bike engine newbie (cars i'm fine with - engineer by trade, just never on bikes) i'm not sure if that's normal, or if my crank seal is boogered?

many thanks,

Lee

Sorry it's not better news, but there should never be oil inside the generator casing.

However, I think you can change the crankshaft seal fairly easily without stripping too much of the engine, just by removing the stator plate.

IIRC, the seal can be removed by carefully drilling two small holes on opposite sides of the seal, screwing in 2 x self-tapping screws a couple of turns, then pulling the seal out with pliers.

The new seal can be tapped back into place, using a suitably sized box spanner or piece of tube as a drift.

I'm sure someone with more detailed knowledge of the specific model will correct me if I'm wrong.

ok, good news, just had a reply from someone on the NTV forum, and they say it is perfectly normal as the starter pinion gears etc are in there, and it runs a wet generator.

Phew! Thumbs Up

Complete and utter rubbish in so many instances.
Have you ever worked on bikes before as your knowledge is woeful?
