Shitty feeling going to work on your bike and walking home in full gear and no bike
Here for advice really.
On way to work as usual. Filtering along around 10mph past static cars (no junctions for couple of hundred metres) quite happily, life is good. Next thing black car that I'm a car length off pulls out, putting indicators on at the same time. She'd seen a parking space on the other side of the road. 'No, no, no' I say but that quickly turns to 'fucking bastard' as the bike goes down and I hit her right underside braking and trying desperately to get right to avoid.
Loads of people pop up out of nowhere! At least five non-involved people ask if I'm OK and a big lad turns up so I ask him to help me get the bike up, all very pleasing. Then the driver turns up, 'so sorry I just didn't see you'. I just stared at her and said 'you actually said it'. Anyway, she was hugely apologetic accepted complete fault. As I was wondering how long that would last, a nice lady ran over and said 'I saw everything, I'll be a witness' and gave me a piece of paper with name number and get this - she'd also written down the car details for me assuming I might be too shaken to get it myself! Anyway, that's the story. I have bruising and pain (all on the limbs on the top side of the bike, go figure), but nothing serious I kept my head up.
TL,DR; I got spammed while filtering. Blame accepted by opponent and I got a friendly witness.
So the advice bit. My bike was a bit of a nail I got and insured for £500. Since then I've turned it into a decent runner. It's the GPZ in my sig. Yes that brand new exhaust has a nice scuff, cracked side fairing, cracked the water pump cover, indicators/mirror ragged, steering maligned the usual. But then a nasty squeal developed too
So, if I go insurance they'll write it off. The nice lady would like to avoid insurance if possible, but I can't see her actually paying for the damage she did 'cos it'll be a lot.
Advice? What would you do? Write off buy back? I am having a quote written up but it won't get done til tomorrow - do I need to let my insurance know now? If I don't and I decide to go write off after she says she can't afford will that cause problems?
Thanks in advance for any help Paint diagram and marks in road to follow in the crash thread, and I think tef might be proud of the length!

If she wants to avoid the insurance then I would go with that too. Look at what is broken, and be reasonable ebay parts and get pattern bits. and give her a quote for the damage with pictures of the broken bits and links to the parts etc. Also give the proper quote to show that you are trying to save her money.
it will be much easier than going through the insurance and will no doubt save you money in the long term. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

Give her the opportunity to settle privately.
She admitted fault and saved you a lot of hassle.
(of course shouldn't have happened regardless, but not the point)

Maybe settle it outside of insurance, get her to give you some money for repairs, don't tell insurance companies, noone gets higher premiums, she pays for her fuck-up and everyone goes home happy ____________________ Fzr-600 1999 |

Although most insurers (or ones I dealt with) tell me they need the police reference...Which I'm assuming you haven't reported it to them? If you have...usually they report to insurers?
Also if she does fob you off and you decide to go the insurance route...they'll ask why it took so long... Also, if there is anything you havent declared on your bike..remove it
I've got loads of non faults on my record, none of them touch my premium But if shes a nice person whos willing to pay for your frame to be checked and straightened along with forks and checking every single part of the bike is straight... go with it.
You'll feel more painful later/tomorrow.
Bad luck mate...going back to bed now... feel well sick |

Thanks all
Ich, I'm torn. Going outside insurance I guess would be the preferable route - the £500 from the insurance won't cover the damage or replace the bike.
Conversely the driver isn't going to pay for all the damage. The exhaust is scuffed (literally a months use). Fine it's only cosmetic but it was mint this morning. They cost £300+ on eBay and christ knows how long it'd take for one to come up. Same with the fairings, to get replacements in that colour (I'm not riding a mongrel bike 'cos a driver can't pay attention) could take forever and be costly.
But then, I'm not getting them either way am I? I'm just furious about the fact that either way, I'm losing out quite a bit - cash, time, injury, I've got to get the bus back to work just because she really, really wanted that parking space. Tempted to go insurance just to ensure it does cost her her NCB and increased premium...

Really sorry to hear that this happened, I can't see you getting your investment back.
Unless you've got fully comprehensive insurance then your insurers are essentially irrelevant until renewal (although you should tell them sooner or later). At most they'll sell your details to an ambulance chaser and try to rent you a bike at £100 a day.
If you want it sorted quickly then either speak to her, or directly to her insurers, making it clear that you have an independent witness.
T.C, arry and/or dragstaar will be able to advise. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

If you get SMIDSY'd then just sit in the road and ask for an ambulance. Better them 'help you up' than some randoms or even worse - a driver looking to take advantage.
It's even better if you block the road in the process. No-one (including the all-important witnesses) goes anywhere until plod arrives and takes statements. It's very interesting how people suddenly admit things when the police ask them.
Still, good luck getting it sorted. ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

Looking at my docs, I actually insured it for £600 So I win!
IF I were to force insurance, I'd get this and then be able to get my bike back for (according to my mechanic) 10-20% of that. Assuming the alarming squeal doesn't turn out to be too bad an issue I can ignore broken fairings and be back on the road for I reckon ~£100 (new pump cover). So my bike looks like shit, but continues to live and I have a few hundred quid to fix it back up slowly.
So if I look at it like that, I need her to be giving me at least the amount my insurance would or I'm diddling myself.
Of course, the subframe could now be twisted... Seriously though, it could be uneconomic. In which case I go insurance, buy bike back, get +£100 for new scuffed exhaust alone and then all the other serviceable bits (engine only has 24000 miles ) on eBay...
I'm struggling to see why I should help her out and fuck myself over atm. I can't see her (anyone) happily handing over £600+ quid. Although I will be showing her a quote for considerably more...
Either way, again I lose ____________________ 'Allo! My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!
