Just got given a Macbook...

It's got a cracked screen, but that's all that's wrong with it, so I plan on fixing it.

I hate macs, so won't really be using it. What are these things realistically worth in good working order?

It's pretty old, 2006, and the model is A1181.

Your best bet is to check ebay. Dont use what is my mac worth or any of those sites. They dont take graphics into consideration and usually undervalue.

You could pop a small SSD in it and it would be a speedy netbook.

You could see what it goes for with the cracked screen. Might not be worth your time fixing if you can get a fee quid for it for nothing,

If it matches that spec you've linked, with the screen fixed I'd say getting £250 for it would be a pretty good result. Upgrading the ram to 2GB for (mountain) Lion would make it quite a bit more sellable. If you brought it it into my lot we would probably give you ~£150 on the spot for that, likely £100 as is with the broken screen as long as the plastics are reasonable.

Can't really go wrong with an Intel GMA based mac though. Just be sure to check the slot loading superdrive, they are the pinnacle of unreliability.

It's a 32 bit CPU (Core Duo) so won't run Lion or Mountain Lion. You're stuck with Snow Leopard.

It's my sisters old laptop, and i've had it going off an external monitor. I'll definitely be swapping the screens over. I can get a 13.3 inch wxga for 65 spondoonys, so unless anyone can find cheaper, I guess the next port of call is ebay and praying for £250. Cheers for the info.

It's def. A 2006, the site says it was last revised in 08, so that must have been the last of the a1181's.

Anyone want to swap/px it for a proper laptop when it's finished?

I would be very surprised if you don't get £250 for it, you'd probably get £200 with the cracked screen...
