Sad I brought a brand new Gilera DNA 50 on friday, Already put 70 Miles on the clock.

But the electric Starter doesnt want to work any more so it takes about 20 minutes kickstarting it every time.

Because the DNA is notorious for cutting out in wet wheather i bought some 'damp start' spray and sprayed all the electrics and it forms a conductive rubber seal around them.

Ever since ive done that the electric starter hasnt worked but im not sure if that caused it.

HELP!

If you've sprayed some stuff all over the electrics and after you did that it now doesn't work the shop won't fix it as it sounds like the spray has killed the electrics. Remove all of it and see if that helps, if not something in the electrics is probably fried and you've got to try to find out what.

Make sure the dealer hasnt had the thing sitting in his showroom for ages taking no care of the battery.. Check it on a multimeter and shove the thing on charge if it needs it..

Always worth checking Very Happy

Do all the other electrics work? If it's just the electric start, then try using a multimeter to see whether it's the starter motor itself, or just the wiring.

Today, after trying the electric start, something was wurring away but not engaging on something, even when engine turned off and keys taken out it carried on. Only a kick in frustration stopped it!

Ive taken the advice and contacted the dealer, apparently the battery is defective and needs replacing because its not charging properly?!

Thanks for the suggestions anyway. Thumbs Up

My DNA NEVER cut out, 15 months worth of riding, 2 winters, every single day it was ridden - electrics were all 100% immaculate. No corrosion inhibitor spray, just Halford's Car wash and its "protective film".

Sounds to me like the through-out starter gear has come loose, that's what the wurring sound is. Just take the engine casing off, give it a bit of a greasing and put it back in place.

To be fair, it wasn't 100% reliable - the HT disconnected itself once (in dry weather). But apart from that - unblemished record. Maybe 99.99% reliable.
