Got to work, put my bike chain through the wheel and locked it, then later realised I've not got the key for the lock
I'm in the AA and they say they could send a van out. I'd have to sign a form saying it don't matter if they break the lock.
I don't care about the lock as I'm 30 miles from home and I'm not leaving my bike here. Has anyone had the AA out for this? Think they will be able to remove the lock? Its a fairly good one with the cylindrical links. |

No lock is 100% secure, all can be opened without the key given time. I remember on top gear where they tested the steering wheel bars/locks that you can buy, they got a proffesional lock smith in and the best one lasted 27 seconds
I am sure the AA man has a biro handy anyway |

Is anyone at home that's able to bring the keys for you
Failing that is there anyone nice enough to take you home and back again with the keys?

Thanks for the ideas, although I'm not sure about the legality of operating a power tool on the street
I've called the AA. While they think it will have to be broken, at least they should get it off.
They've been very good, kept me updated on ETA of the van etc.
Hope they turn up soon. |

So do I. I have my camera phone ready. [1][3]
<FX: pats V500 and whispers "soon, my pet, soon...">
And because I'm not totally heartless, I also have a spare bike lock at home[2], so just pray the fizzer doesn't get nicked between Mr AA hacking off the old chain and you arriving at Chez Bazza to pick up the spare one.
[1] Yes, it is funny.
[2] Until I get the FR900, obviously...
[3] It's only a matter of time before I manage to pull a stunt with an equivalent or better level of bone-headed ineptitude, so I'm making the most of things for now.

Is it a chain with a padlock or one with the lock built into it?
Cos if it's the former, just get it cut next to the padlock and then use the next link along. Sounds obvious but when my scooter chain got cut I was thinking 'oh no I need a new one' until I thought about it and went "duh". |

Have a look in the local yellow pages and see if there is a nearby lock smith, call a few up and see if they're able to pick the lock for you. |

Check the yellow pages for somewhere that hires out hydraulic cutters. It has a cutting head and a big foot pump to drive it closed. It'll cut through anything.
Don't know how much that'll cost though Not really helpful, but I have one lying about in work, it's actually for cutting 500mm squared cables, so should manage a chain I would think ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

Yikes, I wouldn't like to think a hacksaw would be able to go through my chain. (if indeed I had one) ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

Nice one.
You were a bit lucky there. Good job you didn't have one of these buggers like me.
I'd have been there for a month at that rate! |

Nice one! Not quite done anything that stupid before, only a matter of time though! On a completly different note, can you get software that downloads pics from a motorola V220 onto a laptop? (seeing your pics reminded me!)
Nice one!
