Im pretty sure its 21 and 25 that are pretty awesome milestones.. im just about to hit the 3 years no claims milestone... Its not that awesome :/ kinda been negated by the fact insurance has gone up..

Naked seems to be cheaper, im getting quotes of around £800 for a cbr600f insured at kingston (19 years old) Or £400 for a cb500 tpft

27 years old, 4 years NCB, SV650, £68 per year TPFT.

21 is to biking what 17 is to cars. So getting a litre bike at 21 will be stupidly expensive. It also depends on where you live.
Try a site like confused.com and check quotes from loads of places, some charge a fortune. I remember when i got my first car Norwich union wanted £2900 TPO. I hunted around and eventually went with Tesco for £670

I hope it doesn't take until I'm 25 (3 more years) before I can get a sports bike. Maybe I'll be able to afford an older ZX6R sooner rather than later. Not exactly uber-sporty but better than my ZZR...

Yeah my issue is that my no claims is 0 again because of my accident last April. In a year (new policy started 3rd March) things will be better.

Looking at quotes now for a ZX6R G1 I go from £1000+ to £550 quotes if I just add a year no claims. That is without the extra year experience and year in age. Things are looking sporty for next summer Thumbs Up

I don't think there's a magic age when it comes to insurance price dropping, there's too many other factors at play.

I've had my bike license for 8 years now and my insurance is up for renewal next month. I just ran a quote for my bike (ZRX1100) with no security listed, parked on the driveway in a Manchester postcode and it's come back at £190 TPF+T with full breakdown cover, EU riding and riding other bikes. I'm 25 now but I haven't paid more than £400 for bike insurance ever and I've got 8 years NCB to play with at this renewal.

Mine's never been silly expensive. Certainly never as bas as these youths complain about.

Had a Mille at 19, that was £550 TPFT. Have a 954 at 23 and that's £500 TPFT. Not cheap, but certainly not daft money.

Depends on the bike.

At 18, I passed my test, got a 1990 NC29 Honda CBR400, and insurance was £300~ for the year.

Between then, and when I turned 20, I had a few more Honda 400 sports bike, ranging from 1990 - 1995. All around the £300 mark.

Then I got a 2001 Suzuki TLR1000 when I was 20/21. And insurance was £350~.

Then I got a Bandit 1200, insured with no NCB because I had a smash on the TL. At only £330~

Then the YZF450, again, at around £300 for the year.

And now the Yamaha 98 R1, insured at £364 FC, with every type of cover available, helmet, leather, break down etc etc.

I think it depends on the bike.

When I was 19, I rang up to get a quote on an 02 R6, and the quote was over a grand.

Friend who was 20 with 3/4 years ncb got quote £350 for a zx10r.

I'm hoping mine will come down soon. 19 this year with 3 years ncb so Imight start being able to insure sports bikes for sub 1k but I'm not to sure.

Most naked 600's are around £500 which isn't fantastic either.

Mines not been too bad. Had an 2000 R6 at 18. That was £550 TPTF. 2008 R6 at 19 was £850 TPFT and now 22 2010 Fireblade £800 with a VFR400 on the same policy TPTF.

I think on 600 & 1000cc sportbikes its highish but stays stable if you continue building your no claims. The quote for the R6 stayed the same when i turned 21 and couldnt belive that a newer fireblade were cheaper!

Insurance companys can be crackers at times Confused

My mate (same age) pays £1800 for a fazer 6! Abit of shopping around makes a whole world of difference.

£100 for my Hornet at 22 Thumbs Up Cool
That is fresh of the comparison site too;
Seems they are only pushing up premiums for certain types of bike?

There wasnt any huge drop for me at 21 or 25 unfortunatly.

Just a gradual drop year to year with increased experience and NCB.

HOWEVER

Insurance has gone up ALOT in the last 2 and has seen my insurance GO UP, regardless.

Dont forget, these quoted premiums are largely arbitrary.

It's important to remember that so many other factors are at play. Admittedly, age is a biggie but postcode is another massive one. I'm not going to list them all as I expect a quick google on the site will show it's been covered in great detail here already.

Think it depends on the bike.

At 26 I'm paying £330 FC on the Diversion and that's with 4 years no claims. That price was the same whether naked, part faired or full faired.

However, if I looked at a brand new Honda CBR600F I was looking at around £900 FC.

Has definitely increased the last couple of years though. I went from paying not much over £100 to FC my 125s to £200 or so.
