Read the thread at the top which has 'read this first' in capitals?
From there, you'll find a thread linked called "So you want to start racing huh?".

I started off in rookie thousands but changed to mintwins after half a year.
The racing is more based on rider skill in that class rather than wallet size.
Bemsee do a good rookie class. ____________________ follow my racing season

I do something that sort of resembles racing.
I looked into the TD trophy and apart from the £50 registration fee, the entry fee for each round id £250. for this you get 1 45 min. race IIRR .. For this reason im not doing it. The cost all depends on what tracks you want to do, what class, and what your budget is... either way, no racing is cheap.. ____________________ #63 Mikemace.co.uk

Yea I do, well I did until last season, running a rider on my bike(s) now.
You don't have to sign up for a full season with any club as far as I know, you can do as many or as little as you want.
For cheapness the lower classes provide just as much competition and thrills as running a more expensive bike. Look at Bemsee's YPM's, MZ's or Thundersports CB500 for example. Bemsee's rookie Minitwins, as already stated, is also a good starting point, not too expensive and very competitive. The Desmodue series looks pretty good value too.
IMO the bigger clubs safety records are superb, considering what dangers are involved, I've had a fair few offs and the Bemsee officials, marshalls and medical staff are superb without fault
Beware racing becomes addictive, and no form of it could ever be described as cheap! For instance, a front running TZR250 in the YPM's will cost you somewhere near 3 grand, a season if you do all the races could cost up to 8. That's with the engine refreshes, running costs, crash damage ( you will fall off at some point) , spares, transport and general consumables.
The tyre bill on the 600s + can be horrific, and even though you tell yourself you will 'only do a couple', inevitably the bug will bite and you'll want to do every round
But don't let the cost put you off, that's the extreme example, our rider Doug did his rookie year on a fairly ropey TZR and spent a couple of grand having a whale of a time!
Without a doubt it's the best thing I've ever done bikewise and for me no track day even comes close, if you have the urge, give it ago!
With Bemsee we get a qualifying, 2 races on the Saturday. a sunday warm up (normally a couple of laps) and 2 races. Laps are dependant on the length of the track. Believe me the last race on a Sunday afternoon can seem to go on forever!
Entry fees differ for every track but are around the 245 mark ____________________ RD350LC/YPVS Race Bike and enough bits to start another one! - RD350YPVS Race Bike - TZR250 Race Bike - ZX9R - ZZR1400 project - DRZ400SM - RD400 - TS100 - TY250 - More info @ www.waveracing.co.uk or www.ypmrc.co.uk |

That looks pretty cool, - but are there many regulations or limits on what bike you actually use? It seems that you can use different makes and models of bikes, which appeals to me more. ____________________ \m/ Demon Ducati \m/ |
