So I've been working on the Tomos for ages now... spent a grand on the project in total so far...
Now the reason it hasnt gone back together is because I've been ummming and ahhhing over whether I'd be satisfied with it when it's done...
And I decided No...
So I sat down one night, trying hard to figure out what I was after... and whether it was even possible. And my new plan is to stick to a 4.5k limit, and build a 70's style mini-racer, with modern technology...
Quite a few parts will be custom, and I'm even drawing up designs to mount a 70's full fairing to aid with top speed.
The aim is to push this engine to its absolute limits, and hopefully reach 80mph with neutral conditions, not a tailwind or downhill.
Realistically, I believe this is an attainable speed if everything is set up right...
So what I'm asking of you guys, is do you guys have any suggestions?
Current ideas/suggestions include:
Wider swing-arm to accommodate wider rim and rubber.
Front disc conversion
All round disc conversion
Custom expansion chamber
Digital re-programmable internal rotor ignition with dual curve switch.
Wet nitrous is OUT OF THE QUESTION.
Stroke +2mm Crank (Custom job)
Increase compression ratio further, use octane boosters.
Change clutch material/lighten clutch
Must be Naturally Aspirated
Dual expansion chambers (Same principal as twin turbo)

I think you ought to do it to a pre-restriction/pre 1977 moped, retaining frame & crank cases, 50cc max displacement AND pedals.
Otherwise you dont have a super-fast moped; you have yet another, ringer-dinger 50+cc motorcycle on a moped log-book.
Kreidler or early Derbi would be my influences, as in the 1960's/70's GP50's.
Black & silver Number-Plate. 'Round' bubble fairing. Honda MT125 perhaps?

It's a good idea, but I like the underdog status of the tomos

Plenty of pre-77 pedal & pops that are just as deservant, of 'under-dog' status.
I'm with G.
Chuking silly amounts of money at an 80's Thomos, is perversion above & beyond, and DOESN'T even show much creativity.
Modern, post '77 moped laws nailed down speed; so fit a spannie & a big carb & you are into the realms of re-registration, or 'ringer' other than described on the registration'.
Boring out a two-stroke, to make it go faster is no great genius either...
Thomas '50' that is actually an 80, isn't really a '50' any more, and big mph numbers rather less impressive when compared to err... Yamaha RD80MX? Honda H100? RSX100? C90?
Reason I said a pre-77 pedal & pop, is that the regs that permitted the Fast-Fifties like the FS1E, AP50 & Italian loverlies like the Girelli, Minerelli etc, only imposed the 50cc and pedal-drive limitations.
Work within those, you have some defining boundires; ie keep it 'legal' as a moped, and that gives it some relevence and makes numbers you achieve impressive.
Thomos; much 'Fun' as it may be; with no boundries or limits, and simply chucking shed loads of dosh at it, to make it go fast?!
Yeah 80mph from an 80cc big bore... why not stuff a TZR125 engine in it, and go for the ton? Or a CR125 Scrambler-lump..... you could bend the frame around a Bandit 12 engine, with blower & nitreouse.....
Its ONLY a question of cash....
Set some tangible REASON for the project; give it some kind of relevence.
And if you are intend on a 'Madd-Ass-Moped'; then do something that can tangibly CLAIM to be a 'moped' by some accepted defantition. Modern one says 32mph & its no longer a moped. One from the 80's says more than 35, its not a moped, so HAS to be a pre-77 model.
But to stay within the regs of that defanition; buts also still stay 50cc and must have means of human propulsion via pedals.
