Hello All,

I have a few threads about different things I know. This is slightly different though so here it goes.

As you all know im a bit of a noob and dont know much at all about bikes. I wanted to change my rollers, drive belt and jets as I put a new exhaust on (endy sport exhaust).

I ordered the wrong jets though gurtemen or something.. apparently my carb is another brand. Luckily though I bought a 97 as I wasnt 100% sure. My granda though knows someone in his 30s that works at the local car/motorbike parts shop and he had the same scooter as me about 5 years back and messes with them anyway.

So I took it to him and he put the new rollers in for me (13g) the drive belt and then went to change the jet but turns out I had the wrong ones so he tried the 97 for me advising it would be to rich and it turned out it was so he removed it for the stock jet again.

Anyway, he said something about the throttle needle connecting to the carb and how you can lower it down for more fuel as a cheat to changing the jet and thats apparently on par.

He seemed to know what hes doing and said that it should be all good now as is and my bike does seem fairly smooth. Its not much faster but goes just under 60 with more ease then before as in it just climbs there and doesnt need me to sit and wait for a minute to reach it from like 50-58/9 it just climbs there.

My main question though is, is doing what he did sufficient? it was actually running a little bit rich.... so he said to take the silver cap off my new air filter and it will get more air and I did and sure enough it wasnt putting little flecks of oil/petrol out the exhaust pipe anymore.

To me this seems fine and my granda not knowing much about scooters but working on cars etc said it seems to be fine now and it was defo rich before.

So should this be all good?.

Cheers

Also I forgot to mention but my granda checked the spark plug and it was a tea colour he said that it looks fine based on that as it would of sooted up within 20 minutes or gone white within like 20 of riding if it was rich or lean. He also mentioned that my carb was filthy and needed a good clean so I took he air filter off and followed instructions from my granda to spray it in a bit at a time while running as it sucks it through or something.. I dont know how effective this is, is it worth just soaking it for a few hours then drying it off? or is thise something that gets me into taking everything apart and causes problems if I dont know 100% what im doing.

Performance wise it seems slightly louder since the changes he made, it ticks over better at startup and doesnt die if unatended. It seems to accelerate fine even with 13g rollers. Once it reaches 3/4 throttle it sounds a fair bit louder but accelerates as normal. I got it at 40 up a hill and 58 on a flat slightly hilly duel carriage way so to be honest im satisfied with it i just want opinions on if its 'safe'.

Should I even bother changing the jet if its running fine and the spark plug is tea colour? ive bought a new plug (should get it monday) to make 100% sure the colour is tea.

Sorry for being a pain in the ass you know what us noobs are like Mr. Green

I know I probably frustrate you but ive just never done this stuff before and being nooby and people like you being sarcastic back surprisingly actually helps as I did google it and I now understand something thats happening with it.

Apparently that pin controlls it prior to 3/4 throttle which would explain why its smooth around that mark. Once it hits 3/4+ it becomes much louder and feels a bit more boggy and this is apparently controlled by the jet which happens to not be high enough.

I have ordered the right jets and since I watched the other guy do it I can now take the carb off and change it my self which to me is a great feat where as to you its easy I only just learned this today and can now do it with ease. its currently an 83 stock jet so im asuming sticking say a 88 or something in would be sufficient?

Would changing the jets actually make it any faster if it has the wrong one at present? (top end).

It may be frustrating explaining now but it helps me and long term means you no longer need to be frustrated Very Happy.

Cheers.
