Also I forgot to mention but my granda checked the spark plug and it was a tea colour he said that it looks fine based on that as it would of sooted up within 20 minutes or gone white within like 20 of riding if it was rich or lean. He also mentioned that my carb was filthy and needed a good clean so I took he air filter off and followed instructions from my granda to spray it in a bit at a time while running as it sucks it through or something.. I dont know how effective this is, is it worth just soaking it for a few hours then drying it off? or is thise something that gets me into taking everything apart and causes problems if I dont know 100% what im doing.
Performance wise it seems slightly louder since the changes he made, it ticks over better at startup and doesnt die if unatended. It seems to accelerate fine even with 13g rollers. Once it reaches 3/4 throttle it sounds a fair bit louder but accelerates as normal. I got it at 40 up a hill and 58 on a flat slightly hilly duel carriage way so to be honest im satisfied with it i just want opinions on if its 'safe'.
Should I even bother changing the jet if its running fine and the spark plug is tea colour? ive bought a new plug (should get it monday) to make 100% sure the colour is tea.
Sorry for being a pain in the ass you know what us noobs are like |

The needle is part of the carb, the profiling affects the fuel air mix throughout and if lowering it down into the hole where the fuel is coming out & thus restricting the flow is going to make it rich then fuck knows.
So in summary, youve rejetted, fitted a sports pipe, fitted fancy rollers, fitted a new drive belt and gained less than 5mph. Get in there! ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

Okay, stop for a second and go to google.
Type in something like "carburettor needle position" and read up on the effects. Perhaps read my previous post regarding the carb needle position.
Of course it affects it.
Your old setup included a broken exhaust, on a two stroke this is a very big deal as you've already been told in previous threads.
Either way, whatever i say you're going to do your own thing anyway!
Ask yourself for a second how much you've reduced the resale value by, how much its cost, and if it was all worth it for 9mph, of which you'd probbbably have seen 5mph of that just by fitting a 2nd hand standard exhaust for £20 off ebay. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

I know I probably frustrate you but ive just never done this stuff before and being nooby and people like you being sarcastic back surprisingly actually helps as I did google it and I now understand something thats happening with it.
Apparently that pin controlls it prior to 3/4 throttle which would explain why its smooth around that mark. Once it hits 3/4+ it becomes much louder and feels a bit more boggy and this is apparently controlled by the jet which happens to not be high enough.
I have ordered the right jets and since I watched the other guy do it I can now take the carb off and change it my self which to me is a great feat where as to you its easy I only just learned this today and can now do it with ease. its currently an 83 stock jet so im asuming sticking say a 88 or something in would be sufficient?
Would changing the jets actually make it any faster if it has the wrong one at present? (top end).
It may be frustrating explaining now but it helps me and long term means you no longer need to be frustrated .
Cheers. |
