... Just watched Gladiator (again), had a tear in my eye (dust of course).... but all the 'manly' men out there... is there any movies that you've watched that have broke down the 'manly' barrier and had you working on the 'hold it back... I'm fine' reflex?

Not ashamed to admit that Titanic did bring a tear to my eye, not for the fact of some over paid jumped up little twat drowning or some bimbo waving bye bye or anything... but the fact that so many people lost their lives that night because they were thought of as scum.

Mind you, depending on mood (and there are a lot of low moods with me).... ghost can some times have me in tears.... but then again so can faces of death

Prison Break, at the end of season 4, and 24 season 2, when Jack is in the plane, about to crash it...despite the fact I knew that he lived as I had seen the next 6 seasons...

wasn't so much the ending... more the song... even now listening to it would have a trembling voice moment.

Actually I think the music can make the moment

There's a film called "the mighty" that causes no end of dust in my house and brings so many memories of growing up and losing my best mate from a nasty medical condition, then that stupid jack frost film sets off a hayfever attack an makes me wish my dad coulda come back as a snowman when I was a kid...

Not even gonna mention the mask (the one with cher and Eric Stoltz not Jim Carrey) ....

My Sisters Keeper. Saw it on DVD with the (ex) missus and was hard to keep it together.

Also any film with a military/uniformed funeral in it, brings back awful memories of my friend who was killed in Afghan and his funeral.

The only one that has even remotely had an effect on me is Up.

If you cried in Titanic or Gladiator you're a big jessie.

I’ve only ever seen Gladiator once and I do remember how powerful that scene is but I don’t remember onions in the room. I’m going to have to watch that again soon.
I never seem to be able to hold it together watching Forest Gump, he loses so many important people and over a lengthy period of time, it’s just something that gets me every time.

The end scenes of ‘The lives of others’...after the immense struggle of the couple and the realisation the German interrogator had a heart, when he finds the book written for him all those years later...man that’s a tough one. Sad

Tom Jane in the best Punisher movie with John Travolta. I remember having a day off and thinking ‘I wonder if it can top Dolf’s attempt’. It was different, the soundtrack really impressed me, fitted the movie so well. I was stoned and the scene where he holds his wife and sons heads in his arms...arrgh onions! Laughing

Quite a few actually, films give me that opportunity (not that i'm necessarily looking for it) that other things in life don't seem to. Maybe it's because you are relaxed or something, or they catch you off guard, don't know.

Maybe i'm just a big girl.

Off the top of my head:

When The Wind Blows - have to control my viewing of this one, as the first time I saw it, I just lost it, completely. Can't explain why, there will be a reason though. All the more surprising for a cartoon. Just found it very affecting. Maybe if you can see a parallel or are/were particularly close to your grandparents.

Grave of the Fireflies
Apollo 13, every time.
Forrest Gump
Saving Private Ryan
Shawshank Redemption
Green Mile
Marley and Me
The Wind that Shakes the Barley
Brassed Off
Scent of a Woman
The Shooting Party
The Killing Fields
Dead Man Walking
Missing In America
A.I
Driving Miss Daisy
Shine
The Pianist
Vanilla Sky
Memphis Belle
Dark Blue World
The Battle of Britain
Das Boot
My Boy Jack
K:19 The Widowmaker
LOTR: Return of the King

anything by Mike Leigh usually, his serious ones anyway

I watched Toy Story 3 the other night and nearly went, so yeah. I get it bad.

I probably need to go and lie down on some professional's couch. Thinking

I cried in Titanic when it occurred to me that although his character died, Leonardo Dicaprio was still alive.

Chronicles of Riddick - I cried when I realised that I would never have the opportunity to use the words "I'll kill you with my tea cup." and mean them.. Crying or Very sad

Nah seriously, any movies where there's incurable illness and romance intertwined tend to get to me for some reason - there's quite a few of those *shamefacedly hands in his man-card to have 150 man-points removed*.

Thinking about it, I REALLY enjoy watching films but I don't get fully engrossed in them which may explain why I haven't cried at a film since Hooch was killed in Turner and (I was about 8).

I usually spend the whole time noticing mistakes and trying to guess the ending.

I think 'Hachiko a dogs story' Nearly got me. That film was made purely to make people cry. Had about 7 other friends/family bawling their eyes out around me.

Damn good film too.
