I'm after your thoughts people, this being a chat forum n all Wink :-

The missus' 6 month old Peugeot scoot broke down on the way home from work today. She's called the Peugeot garage that sold it to her who said they can't pick it up until tomorrow - staff issues - but get this, unless we drop it off to them somehow ourselves (not got the wherewithal to do this btw) - we'll have to pay for the pick up at £60!

I think that's ridiculous and pretty rubbish customer service from them - especially before they can determine the cause of the break down.

What do you think?

Thumbs Up She was sitting on vmax (30mph believe it or not) for a couple of hundred yards, already about 10 minutes into her journey. Simply lost drive and clattered to a halt - not seized - she said there was a big old smell of hot/ burning rubber (or oil?) without any obvious external cause. It spins over on the starter but making the proverbial 'skellingtons in a dustbin' clatter without actually firing up. I got her to check the oil level (assuming it had run dry and partially seized) but no; oil level still visible almost up to the filler neck.

If it was new when you bought it then it should be under warranty, which would include any transport or labour costs as a result of the breakdown.

I'd ring up Peugeot and express your disatisfaction - they may recommend or help you find another dealer near you. Also don't forget to ask for a 'loaner' (for free) from the dealer when you eventually get it there.

Good luck

@demonic - I'll be give it a good seeing to when I get home - the scoot that is - oh hardy har ha Laughing - including taking picutres etc as I could imagine the garage trying to stitch us up with the cause of the break down (I trust no-one you see - and more often than not I'm proven).

@headlamp - good, I'm glad it's not just me that thinks the transport cost should be met by the garage who sold it to us. It'll be a case of py it now, let them sort it and argue the toss afterward... Wink Thumbs Up

They charged me £15 to pick my scooter up in a van which was very good. It did turn out to just be the spark plug though...

Smell of burning rubber might suggest that Cagiva Gezzer maybe correct - the variator drive belt mave have snapped and taken something with it, hence the loss in drive. Your warranty SHOULD cover this and any costs incurred.

tell em you aint payin!! Mine had a prob with carb icing, and all through the year they said "we have drained your carb!" all good for 100 miles!! then same again!! around 6months after the problem they said, maybe we should fit the carb heater mod under warranty!!

They charged me a lot of money when attempting to fix it before!!

Also, although it may not be the problem, get her to ask about the carb heater mod under warranty. Because otherwise she will not be able to get to work in the wet!!(unless she is lucky)

I had around £200 of repairs/labour. And in the end they said "well, this wont cost you anything, we will get it under warranty!"

thanks everyone - I thought it'd be the drivebelt myself - all that constant rubbing up against the speed restriction must've been too much - I'm now on my way home to check it aht...

My scooter did that and I found out that it had overheated and scored the piston causing no compression so obviously no running. Razz

Thats what happened to me today the bike just lost power and the engine came to a stop everytime i tried to start it it just squeeked, luckily my mums mate has a sprinter van with a bike ramp, but took the variator casing off the belts shredded, so i'm getting that fixed this week and then hopefully selling it,

The garage called up half an hour after they were supposed to turn up to say they couldn't make it today. This annoyingly after wifie arranging work to be home on time...

They picked it up early the next morning (Saturday)....and we didn't hear from them again until Tuesday afternoon; when we (wifie) called them to find out what was happening.

Verdict - the main bearing had failed for some reason. When pressed, the reason given was "mmmummf probably due to a foreign body getting into the oilpump" but 'all fixed and tested OK' They said they'd call back to confirm the arrangements re dropping it off to us. Didn't get a call back by the end of the day.

Didn't get a call the following day either. Now Wednesday afternoon; wifie calls them back - speaks to reception who 'confirm' they don't have anything to do with the arrangements and wifie needs to speak to service to arrange; they're full of apologies; reception saying service should've called, service saying they asked reception to call. Service tell wifie that they will make special arrangements and get reception to call her back urgently with details before the end of the day.

It's now Thursday midmorning - still not heard...

(you know, as an aside, I get exactly the same level of 'service' from my garage for my car...what IS it with these organisations?)

Outrageous! They are treating you like, er badly because they think they can get away with it! I would phone them immediately and ask to speak to the Managing Director and say that you are very dissatisified and will be writing a letter to him detailing the events of the last week. If he does not arrange for the bike to be returned immediately you will post the letter on the UK's largest Internet forum for bikes and scooters, then remind him what that would do for his scooter sales!

Alternatively if the garage are part of a group then get the name of the MD of that and say exactly the same thing. You probably should let us know which garage has treated you badly so that we can avoid it anyway!

I guess you didn't get a loaner, and hope you won't have to pay for anything!

I'm going to wait until we get it back - wifie's using the car while I use the GPZ for the time being - once we have it and have checked it over/ road tested it, they'll be getting the call/ letter whatever necessary to get my money back and something akin to decent customer service. I will post the name of the dealership when resolved.... Thumbs Up Wink

Update - since chasing them up on that Wednesday afternoon and being promised a call back to arrange delivery now that the bike had been fixed (done and dusted on Monday note):-

Heard nothing Thursday.

Wifie was busy Friday, expecting the call at work - none - nor at home - checked the answerphone when she got home from work. She had stuff to do that afternoon and planned to ring 'em and give them an earful when she returned....

She got back home to find - completely out of the blue - the flatbed truck outside the house, dropping off the Scoot, completely by chance as she turned up...What if we'd just left to go away for the weekend? Were they happy to leave the Scoot sitting outside the house after sticking the keys through the letterbox?

Hoho - I'm going to have fun with this letter! Thumbs Up Middle Finger Laughing
