So it has a socket big enough for the bolt on the rear/front wheels. Looked at this earlier and it's not obvious from the pic how big they go to. ____________________ Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. |

I'd be tempted by this:
https://www.cgfixings.co.uk/user/products/large/Draper/43647_H31MMC.jpg
That's a good price for the Halfords set for what you get, but not sure if it's the 'Professional' with the guarentee etc.
I'm not that convinced by the Halfords stuff generally - it's 'ok', but I much prefer the draper stuff linked generally.

Everything up to 32 + lifetime guarantee for £37. Add the same 1/4" one for the diddly stuff and you're just tipping 55. Do it on a VAT free day and you're well under budget.
As to a 42mm socket, I'm pretty certain you have your sizes wrong. No way your rear wheel nut is 42mm, or if it is good luck finding a set for it, but you'll need to be looking in at least 3/4" to get that big. ____________________ YBR 125>FZS600 |

Halfords professional advanced socket sets.
You want the 1/4 drive set and the 3/8 drive set. They've done all the jobs on my bike so far. The 1/4 drive set also includes a screwdriver attachment and torx/allen key bits.
Also worth getting the halfords advanced professional impact driver, screwdriver set & the spanner set too. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

Ah yes, only read the quick description which says "for the professional", but the main description does specify life time guarantee.
Still not a fan . |

Despite their logo, I have never found a Rolson tool I'd consider to be good-quality.
Have a load of their non-blow fuses (no, they are meant to blow, but instead they just melt the plastic, causing your vehicle wiring to set fire to it's self in the case of a short circuit.)
On the cheaper side, I've had one of these:
https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/ODk0WDkxNQ==/$%28KGrHqR,%21mIE9JBsBfNPBPc0CtEFzg%7E%7E60_12.JPG
And been very happy with it, definitely for the price.
On the draper set:
The 6 point 'wall drive' system used I find really good for not rounding heads. While it's 1/2 drive so the smaller ones are still a bit big, 8-32mm is very good coverage and you get a decent range of deep sockets too.
Overall I'm happy with mine and would definitely buy the same again over a Halfords set.

Cool, thanks for that. Might not be the best name or set but if you've been happy with it then suits me fine. ____________________ Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. |

Halfords 'Professional' seem pretty good but be aware, the guarantee doesn't cover any "moving parts". Fine for the ratchets - they offer repair kits, but their ratchet spanners are around £10 each to replace.
Broke one of the 8mm ratchet spanners. Sent the OH in to get it changed and they told her that unless the spanner was broken then they wouldn't replace it as it was a moving part.
Brought it home, snapped the spanner on the vice and sent her back in a few weeks later. Spotty yoof took a look at it, and said that he couldn't see how it had broken and that he wasn't sure whether he could replace it. OH told him that her boyfriend had broken it accidentally and that I would come in and have a 'chat' with him if he wanted me to. The guy apparently looked at the spanner, thought it over, and practically ran off to get the spanner to replace it! |

That isn't a standard socket set, those are reverse-torx sockets. |

B&Q TorQ
Very similar to the halfords pro kit, albeit they have 6-point drive rather than 12-point drive sockets. Much the reason why I bought their 150 piece. I've used the halfords socket kits before and they are brilliant. After a few weekends using the TorQ kit, I can confirm they are just as good as the halfords, plus I don't run the risk of rounding off my nuts. ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1
