One comment I have about Arlen Ness, is DO NOT BUY ARLEN NESS SHORT BOOTS
https://www.arlen-ness.co.uk/usrimage/bot-1283-an.jpg
I have the earlier version of these boots, and after less than a year of riding, the surface layer of the lorica material is bubbling, splitting, and in places peeling off.. and the reinforced sole of one boot has also cracked/split.
They have not been abused, (only used for commuting to work etc) and I'm not particularly hard on my kit, so I'm really disappointed that my boots are in such a state...

I'll try to take some pics and post them asap

Exact same thing happened to my TCX SS Sport WP boots, less than 4000 miles use!

Perhaps this Lorica stuff is (as I expected tbh) not a patch on leather!

But lorica means armour! How can it not be totally awesome?

Want some free boots? Please, dear God, someone take these boots.

I was going to say the bin surely wants them, but Shaane does have a point! Mr. Green

I bet their logo doesn't fall off.

After all, that's the bit you're paying the premium for.

Their boots are very shit. My full size pair lasted under a year too before the lining came away from the 'leather'.. Get some alpinestars smx boots, and why would you buy those wanky booties in the first place?

Their leathers are very good though. Tried and tested many times.

My Sidi Vertigo's are really comfortable, but not really suitable underneath work trousers.
and my Sidi Black Rains look ok with work clothes, but are really warm to wear indoors...
I guess I may look at some plain black Caterpillar boots or similar next... (which actually work out slightly cheaper even than the Arlen Ness boots when I bought them at end of line / sale price).

I certainly won't assume that a premium brand (with premium prices) will necessarily mean premium quality Rolling Eyes

edit: for the record, I initially thought the boots looked distinctive without being o.t.t. - and initially they were certainly more comfortable than walking around in my Vertigo's

I purposely didn't clean them up, so that you can see exactly what they're like without me trying to cover up any flaws.
I've owned the boots for about 16-18 months, but only used them for less than 12 months. British weather is bad, yes, but I don't think they've been used during any heavy downpours, and even if I get caught in a shower, it was only for commuting less than 10 miles each way, ffs

Middle Finger to Arlen Ness Evil or Very Mad

I've recently been having the same problem, I wanted something I could wear all day at work, plus they needed to be comfortable to drive in.

I only found the solution when I realised I was approaching the problem from the wrong angle, I was looking for bike boots I could wear for work, when I should've been buying work boots I could wear on the bike.

Once you change your mindset, you end up with more choice and better prices.

I ended up with a pair of Dewalt work trainers, oil/water/heat resistant, steel toes and reinforced sole, high top so they cover my ankles.

Screwfix special offer, 50 quid including a natty Dewalt tool bag, job done Thumbs Up

my race suit is an arlen ness and personally i think its great. getting on for a year old and still looks brand new, just hope it holds up in a spill.

one thing i will say though the sliders you get with them are made from cheese. destroyed them in one trackday!!

put a set of wiz hard ones on and they've been good so far Smile

i do love the suit though, its a magnesium, honeycomb inside, so comfy. and added bonus, its made me very aware of putting weight on, the things tight as with a back projector in it Very Happy

My Sidis are made of lorica and I've owned them for seven years, used them in all weathers, and have even worn them in the sea. They're tatty, but show no signs of giving up yet.

Really?

I first heard of him in the 70's as a custom bike builder, I didn't realise he made clothes?

Most likely the way I'll be heading in future. I'll put this one down to experience, and make sure that Arlen Ness boots never darken my doorway again Twisted Evil

The Sidi's were actually what I originally wanted, but couldn't afford at the time... so went for the sale priced "alternative" of the cheaper Arlen Ness boots...
Yet again turned out to be a false economy Rolling Eyes
