The other night after the museum closed I saw one of these:

Wizz up the disabled ramp inside the museum, it was one of the creators of the bike who had bought it in as part of a "future" exhibition, I caught up with him outside and got a few blurry pictures of me sitting on it:

The bike was really nice in the flesh and seemed to have a lot of poke when the guy was tearing around on it (0-60 in 4 seconds he claimed), I've been invited to take a test ride on track if I want to. I'm seriously considering one as my next bike, very good charge time, good range, good performance, future upgrades included as part of the package when you buy it, plus they encourage you to fiddle with the performance mapping. If they did one with pillion room I think I would find myself saying yes.
That's all.
Edit: Forgot to mention, it's called the saietta r and is made by a company called Agility. ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock.

Dude, how can you afford one of those when you can't even afford £8 for a short back and sides.
You seriously need that mop looking at before removing your helmet and posting pictures on the internet. ____________________ Feck Orf |

Or buy an 80mpg NC700S for £5350, put £8400 in the petrol money jar = 6000 litrons of fuel = 1333 gallons = 100,000 miles before the electric trinket will start to pay off.
Of course, the manufacturer will go bust long before then, leaving you with a whining time bomb that'll be junk as soon as any vital component goes. Expect any potential buyer to have thought of that too, so good luck shifting it at any price.
Electric bikes might be a rational purchase when they come with a Honda badge on them, and not a moment before. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

No idea on the battery question, I've emailed the Agility team and invited them to get somebody with a little technical knowledge to pop on to the forum and answer some questions. Could make for an interesting thread!
The 100,000 miles is only correct with prices as they currently stand. they've gone up nearly 50% since I started riding in 2006, willing to bet that it will continue to rise at a similar rate.
One thing I've never understood is why they don't use a standard battery system or a couple of different batteries depending on vehicle and then convert petrol stations to charging stations:
Pull up to the station
Flat battery out
Charged battery in
Drive away
Station recharges batteries en masse
The station could use the space usually used for petrol storage as a battery charging area.
With a little thought I'm sure most of the swap over process could be automated. ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

I like that idea.
Only problem that I can see is people taking in their dead batteries (i.e. don't hold a charge well, and need replacing,) and walking away with freshly charged new ones. ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

Damn it. Where's these discussions then? Not seen one myself and I'd like to know the flaws I haven't thought of! ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

Swappable batteries have often been proposed, but given the mongtarditude of your average filling station cretin (and drivers), it would have to be automated.
That would mean designing the vehicles around the battery swapping system.
And that would mean 90% of manufacturers agreeing to pay to use someone else's patented battery design.
Do you really think that's going to happen? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Renault proposed something like this a few years back - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-Azrt_wUkc
Automated, but would require every car utilising the same battery design, which, like Rogerborg said, is unlikely to happen.
Personally, I love the idea of electric vehicles, if I had the money, I would certainly have that electric bike. And probably a nissan leaf too. Sadly, I don't, so its petrol for me until I win the lottery. |

Electric vehicles are proposed to be good for the environment.
Making multiple batteries to allow a battery swop system would seriously undermine this. ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "
