hello peeps..

Im wondering, if there is such a bike for what i need. Im looking for something around £1500 or less with 600cc + power that is reasonably easy to fix/get parts for. Something that I can throw in the back of the van without being too scared of something breaking.

Lookin for suggestions..

Honda CBR 600 F

Can easily get one for £1500, mine was £900.

It's reliable and easy to get parts and to maintain.

I wouldn't want to do my 50 mile a day, all year round commute on a Hornet!

wonder how that changes the bike recomendations.

Are bandits greedy with the juice ?

2004 bandit 600, naked did 130 miles to reserve using motorways (103miles) at 80ish and about 30-45 minutes around towns.

Reserve would have lasted another ~35-50 miles if ridden normally.

Costs just over £20 to fill.

To put in perspective, I do 130 miles to an 18l tank on the GSXR750. I dont hang around as such... motorways are usually 100...possibly more and I like to stay in 1st n 2nd to the limiter.

Indeed. I would have a new shape SV but I'm not a big fan of the old shape ones which is probably what you are going to get for £1500. However if you like what they look and ride like...they are a great compromise between cheap and fun.

Why? Mines perfectly comfortable still after 50 miles. Tank range can be poor but if you take it easy you can see 120 or more to the reserve. Parts are fairly cheap and easy to come by. And they can be had for pretty cheap, I would pick one over a bandit or an sv any day

He's asking to put it in the back of a van. Fuel consumption is hardly an issue. Wink

FYI.


What MPG should I expect?

If you ride your Hornet sensibly you can expect around 40mpg or more. One guy claimed 50mpg - vicars on push bikes must have been overtaking him.
If you ride your bike normally you'll get around 35mpg.
Give it some beans at every opportunity and you're looking at about 30
Either way, 35 is a good average.

Did 100 miles on exactly 10l of fuel - town riding (fast starts) and twatting it round the bypass at 70, officer. I don't ride slow.

That's 45 mpg, and that's about what I normally get. 99 Hornet. So I think that 35 is a bit low.

Still filling up every 100 miles tho...

35mpg is BAD for a 600, especially a roadbike.


30-35 at it's worst, it was a general FAQ to accommodate the decade of different generations, so they had to be general.

Can get 40-45 MPG, much like your K75, which puts it up with bandit 6's and SV's, if you ride appropriately. The only down side is it's tank size, as said by Beelzebob.

But, IMO a minor setback outweighed by it's build quality and lightness, compared to it's competitors in the 6's category.

I would have to drag race from the lights and speed like a madman to average 45mpg. A certain site bandied around on here uses americqn gallons which are smaller than uk gallons. I average 49 mpg urban commuting and 60-65 on the motorway.

Quite, you may have MPG over the Hornet.

Keeping this on topic though, OP wanted parts. I imagine I could get parts for 98-99 H (OPs price range) very easily compared to K75S, being a less common bike and stopping production in '95.

But, MPG isn't everything to everyone.

K75S: (est) 120 mph
Hornet: (est) 133.3mph

But, considering that the OP wants to put it in a van, I'll assume track days. Which is where the Hornet would ultimately chump the K75S, which, if anything is more of a tourer.

Its a bmw, almost 100% parts availability and cheaper than any japanese bike. Hell of a lot easier to work on than anything honda.
