My ignition barrel is getting to be a pain in the bum, it requires furious wiggling to get the key turning. I just priced a new one at £100! Is this reasonable, or does anybody know where I can get one a bit cheaper?

I'll give that a go. I'm a serious bike tech n00b, I take it I just flood the thing with WD40? |

As Craig say, try WD40 and if that doesn't work try some more WD40, repeat until it does work.
Before spending £100 on a new one I'd firstly put a fair bit of effort into fixing that one and if that doesn't work I'd try to find one at a breakers yard. Online part finders are useful, here's one and here's another. |

Thanks, I'll give the WD a go first. Then if I have no joy, will get scouring those sites Ste. |

Hi
Try the WD40 (or 3 in 1 oil, or something like that), but be aware that Suzuki ignition switches do go like this and are a pain so you might well have to replace it.
You will probably find that there is a certain technique to operate the ignition switch. With my Bandit, put the key in the ignition and push the key forward, then it turns fine. I do it without thinking about it.
All the best

I absolutely drenched it in WD40 yesterday and gave it a while to soak in. Went out for petrol tonight and it's like a whole new ignition barrel! Thanks to CraigZZR for suggesting that first off, you saved me £100 mate. I owe you a pint. |

A pattern part from a breakers (new, but not brand name Kawasaki) cost me 18 quid for the complete barrel including block connector and such, for the ZZR. I'd be willing to bet there is a pattern GS ignition available too ____________________ I'm immortal. Well, so far. |
