Morning All

I need some waterproof boots as I'm fed up with soggy feet now.

Has anyone got a pair of these

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Black-Leather-Motorbike-Waterproof-Road-Touring-Blytz-K4-Long-Boot-Size-9-/300700181663?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Boots&hash=item460320a49f

if so what are they like, are they actually waterproof?

The other option which seems to be quite popular is a pair of something like this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mil-Army-Cadet-Full-Leather-Combat-Patrol-Boots-Size-4-13-/270921851914?pt=UK_Men_s_Shoes&var=&hash=item84ba47a475

with some of these

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealskinz-Waterproof-Thin-Mid-Length-Merino-Wool-Cycling-Horse-Riding-Sock-/330643635162?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Equestrian_Clothing_MJ&var=&hash=item7dbd8d8cc1

Cheers

Jon

I've got a pair of the Blytz. They seem to be 1/2 to 1 size larger than listed. I wear them in winter because I can get a couple of pairs of thick socks on with them. So far they appear to be waterproof but then I always treat my boots with stuff that waterproofs the leather so they would be. I'm not a great fan of the velcro only fastening tbh, I feel more secure with the zip in my other boots.

For the price they are OK boots though.

Cheap and cheerful - highly surprised if they are waterproof or comfy. I brought a pair of cheap boots once - they were cheap for a reason - they were shit.

Thanks for the replies.

I want something reasonably waterproof and comfortable so I think I'll avoid the cheap bike boots and go for the patrol boots and waterproof socks.

I don't thnk I like the idea of velcro only fastening either.

The reviews for the patrol boots I linked to aren't great anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers

Alpinestar SMX4 WP Thumbs Up

I've had mine 5 years and they are still 100% waterproof.

Unfortunately they are slightly out of my price range.

Even if they will last you 5 years? I wore mine pretty much everyday on the commute. I wore them today in the pissing down rain and guess what? My feet were dry Wink

IMO it's worth spending a bit more on something that will last you years.

I totally agree with you about that but I can't afford anything like that at the moment, hopefully the patrol boots should last well if looked after anyway.

Hi

If you can stretch to £90 I'd highly recommend these TCX boots:

https://www.topgearsuperstore.com/mega-clearance-sale/motorbike-boots/copy-of-tcx-ss-sport-motorcycle-race-boots-black-waterproof.html

Many on the forum have them, including me which I use 5 days a week all weather. They are waterproof and the most comfortable boot I've had.

If you go on that site and use code FB10 you get 10% off so boots will be £90.

Compared to normal boots, what's the sizing like.

Any other recommendations for Waterproof, commuting and some walking around type boots. Price is an issue Smile

Used to wear some combat boots until the sole decided to do it's own thing. Now have you wear my work boots.

I don't know why people worry so much about whether the boots are waterproof or not. Most 'waterproof' boots are so because of a membrane which is fitted during manufacture and this can, and does, tear sooner or later. Leather treated with waterproofing wax/silicone, did the job for years before the invention of goretex etc and still can. It's not too onerous to give your boots a coat once a week is it? I'd worry more about the quality of the construction, fit and comfort.

As I said above, my boots have goretex and have been used daily for the best part of 5 years, and they are still water proof. That is probably why people worry, because you can get decent kit that does the job.

HG do a decent range of boots for under £100, and because "they're closing down" they normally offer a bit off. Gortex/shelltex/whatevertex is guaranteed with them too.

TCX gets my vote too. I have some Competizione Goretex which are a bit pricey but are amazingly comfortable and great piece of kit. The ones that Jefr0 suggested are pretty much same as mine but without the torsion protection thingymebob.

If you can stretch your budget to afford to get some decent ones, I would suggest doing so. They will last ages and will work out cheaper in the long run.

You're lucky then or have feet that don't stress the boot too much. I've had 2 pairs of very expensive gortex walking boots go on me after 15 and 18 months.(used for hill walking not riding).I don't bother paying for the goretex now, just use the wax and guess what? - they do the job perfectly. That's why when I came to buy motorcycle boots I didn't worry about whether they were sold as waterproof or not, I knew they would be with a little effort.

Not sure if you can get these, but the Sidi Onroad were the highest rated for waterproofness in a test done a few years ago. That is what I have and they have worked great. Use them for all my riding, hot or cold. They are holding up great. Just had them resoled.

Thanks for all the replies, my budget is £50 tops, so it looks like "proper" bike boots are out unless a decent pair come up on eBay before I order some patrol boots.

Cheers

For £50 or so get a pair of DocMartens and a silicone waterproofing spray and you ll be fine I think.

Yeah, yeah.. I know no ankle protection etc, but they are at least strong leather unlike most of the cardboard made "combat" boots you find for around £20-30 on ebay. Plus you can actually walk with them.

Same as other boots for sizing.

Depends what you want from some boots.

I got the TCX as recommended on here, for being waterproof, comfy, long lasting and shin/ankle protection (as shin/ankle protection helped save my leg in a previous crash)
