 |
|
Hi forum, I'm new here as you can tell, although I've often read topics in the past. I'd like to share with you my lasting impression after my bike tests on Monday April 23rd.
I've been riding geared bikes for about 10 years now - I'm 17 - and I started off doing trials. I did my CBT last year and have 12 months road experience on a geared 50. Anyway, enough of the life story. My birthday was last Friday, so naturally I booked training for the Saturday and Sunday to follow. I was with Lightning motorcycle training in reading and I found my instructor Will to be very helpful and confidence inspiring, despite a few silly mistakes I made during the first day.
Monday morning saw me setting off to Newbury for my module 1 test, which went just fine, I picked up a minor for not exaggerating my shoulder check enough on the U turn exercise. On to the module 2 test in Farnborough after lunch, in the lovely weather. Overall I thought I had done okay and was expecting a few minors. To my surprise I instead made no minor faults but failed my test on one major fault within 5 minutes of the end. I was disappointed and didn't realize at the time, but I had apparently caused a BMW to slow down - he was changing lanes as I turned left onto a dual carriage way, which I could have anticipated.
I am now undergoing the longest 3 weeks of my life, back on a 50cc bike waiting for a re-test. I was wondering does anyone have any similar experiences they would like to share, or perhaps any tips that helped them with their bike license. Or any opinions about the process itself?
Sorry for the boring wall of text, it was hard thinking of a way to introduce myself here.

Move to Cyprus!
If you made it to the test centre, without binning it, you've passed! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

I know how you feel.
Failed my mod 2 twice now.
First test I thought I'd done quite well on only to be told I failed for a dangerous. Was about to go on a slip road onto a dual carriageway, but forgot to notice the roundabout prior to that and sort of cut up a car.
Didn't actually realize I'd done that till I got home and checked google maps.
Second test was a complete balls up.
Examiner told me to go right at a double mini roundabout.
I proceeded towards the second one, only for my mind to remember at the last second that I was meant to go right.
Que me swerving the bike back round. Ended up as a serious.
It's the ride back from the test center thats the worst part.
I was just constantly thinking how stupid I was for doing those faults and rode back home like a nutcase!
Got my re-take in 2 weeks, so would have waited for a total of 4 weeks.
Keep checking for cancellations. Thats what I did for my second one and got one 4 weeks earlier than what it would have been.
Just try and keep your mind off it and your test date will be here sooner than you think.
My only gripes about the whole test process is the way you can make careless mistakes that you would probably never do if you weren't under test conditions. Nerves I guess, but it's the only way you're going to get a license, so you just have to put up with it. |

Ah well, that's just bad luck. If you sat there thinking "But what if those cars moved into my lane?" you'd never get going. I bet the examiner would have made the same move, and just hoofed it away a bit quicker.
Smash its back doors in next time, job done. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Thanks for all the nice replies everyone, I'm glad I made an account. I particularly relate to the post about checking on google maps - and I also rode home like a bit of a nutcase, maybe because it was my last chance to experience the wonderful performance of a worn out cg125.
I went back to the junction today and did things properly. What a shame no-one has found a way to splice the fabric of time. I have my test and a bit of training booked for may 14th, here's hoping I won't need another.
My question now is, "what should I do next?" is there an initiation process, do I have to fetch anyone a long weight or some tartan paint? How did you guys start out on the forums? ____________________ Current Bikes: Honda CRF 250R, Honda CB500R
