This is a what bike thread on behalf of a friend.
Like me he passed his bike test about 7 years ago.
Unlike me, he is loaded and was gonna buy a brand new zx6r but had an accident on the test ride that made him think he shouldnt kill himself as he has 2 kids.

However he has now seen my bike and wants one.
I have successfully steered him away from sportsbikes.

He's thinking of spending about £4k.

He's currently thinking transalp or triumph bonneville.

These are bikes I know nothing about. He intends to commute from Liverpool to Manchester on it.

I did suggest a street triple but that may be a bit too sporty for his needs, particularly as he can be a bit impulsive and I don't want to be responsible for his death.

I suggested the versys.

So what are the thoughts of you lot on the transalp and the bonneville ?

Not sure he would take any other suggestions so just tell me about those.

Versys all the way. Tell him to read some reviews and take a test ride.

So let me get this straight, he will likely die if he gets a sportbike but if he buys a bike that isn't one then he will be safe and won't ? Confused

I wasn't aware that riders are more likely to die just because of the type of bike they are on!!!

Glad to keep you informed.

You may also be interested to know that faster cars are also more likely to crash than slower ones.

If you don't believe take a look at the difference in insurance premiums.

Admittedly I went straight from a 125 to a less modern sports bike, but this guy can always get a new biker bike for a year then trade it in for something faster later on, as he can afford to lose a bit on changing bikes.

If he prefers a sports bike style without the power then maybe something like a ninja 250 would work? it would also work well for commuting.

If he is loaded, why not a Ducati Monster ?

It has style like a sports bike, but with the practicality of a streetbike.

Plenty of engine sizes and powers avalible to suit.

MK1 Blade is a good choice, or he can man the fuck up and get the new MV F3, failing that mk1 blade

I disagree. I think fast cars driven by idiots are more likely to crash than those not driven by idiots. Slower cars are more likely to cause accidents than be in one.

In both cases - posh/expensive cars and cars that are driven ridiculously slowly - are either driven by people with more money than sense or those who've already died but not realised it (or both), and all should just get the fuck off the roads and leave it to those of us who've got a clue... Mad
