new here, first time post and in need of some help Smile

i have a huoniao HN125-8 125cc motorcylce and i removed the left and right switches to install replacement switches as my headlamp main beam wasnt working but dip and possition lights where, even with a new bulb. so i thought new switches might aid in fixing that problem.

thing is, now that i've installed the new switches, my rectifier sounds like its chewing on metal with cast iron jaws!

i thought "ah bugger" so i swapped them out and stuck the old ones back on.

same thing, and to boot, this happens on the electric start, dont want to try the kick start but will if needs be. when using the electric start, all the electrics cut out for a while, presumable while the rectifier....rectifies itself after what ever is going on.

the battery has been charged and is putting out a steady 12.48v DC.

so um.....anyone have any ideas? haha.

i can post a pic of the wiring inside the headlamp (cause of the switch replacements) and a wiring schematic if it would help Smile.

thanks in advance everyone.

I never heard of a rectifier making a noise - but if I did it would be off the bike in a flash before it went up in smoke.

Are you sure it's the rectifier, not the starter solenoid?

its definatly the rectifier.

i jsut went out and checked, looking AT the rectifier at the time and the sound defo came from that and it moved like 1mm when it clicked and killed the electrics.

they're the correct switches.

only wire i wasnt sure about is a LIGHT BLUE wire for the fromt right indicator, otherwise all wired up correctly as the connectors they use will only go into the one its meant for.

Rectifiers don't click.

Let's get this straight - you push the button to start the engine and you get a click or a metallic chattering? Is so, that's the starter solenoid jumping in and out.

Check the battery terminals are tight. Make sure you don't have a small ring clamped under the main battery lead on either terminal, if they have more than one connection. Find the frame earth on the battery neutral wire and check it's tight. Do the same for the engine earth. Check the red leads onto the starter is tight.

heres a photo of the area

https://i48.tinypic.com/4hqdfk.jpg

its the bit with the 2 red wires on it that jumped and is making the noise. which according to my wiring diagram is the rectifier. although i may have miss read it because according to the diagram theres a bunch of other bits too lol

the fuse is fine btw.

i checked the battery terminals and they look fine too. also the battery ground goes directly to the engine block and thats nice and solid as well.

incase it helps, heres the wiring diagram. it seems pretty accurate for what i've observed so far Smile

thanks for all the help so far too

p.s after google imaging "motorcycle starter selenoid, your completely correct lol.

Be carefull if you start messing with mixture screws only one to fiddle with is idle screw.not air or oil mixture screws

my first motorcycle Very Happy

im in the process of changing the black (including the seat) to white.

hoping this will make me more visible for night riding.

also added LED strip lights for being more visible at night and added a dimmer to them if i need to make them brighter/dimmer

It won't help with night visibility but it will look grubby as hell in a very short while.

Might also attract you some unwanted attention outside the Blue Oyster Club Smile

i dont know what the blue oyster club is lol

i intend on keeping it nice and clean, getting some custom made vinyl stickers for the tank to add a little colour, but not alot, they're black stencil type ones as i want to keep it simple

i would leave the bike as it is, you will only make it worth less in value.

Unless its a proper airbrush chopper style graphics that cost ££££££

so not even going to ask about that lol.

its funny, i've been fixing problem after problem with this bike. only paid £200 for it though so cant complain.

had to tighten the gear change lever bolt, scrub off the indicator contacts, got the headlamp issue then this, idle speed was too high.

wonder what else this bike has in store for me haha

loving it all the way though!
