Just a wee heads up to any one comming to the North of Scotland, the Highland Constabulary are have a campaign with speed cameras all over the place, to try and cut exessive speed on rural roads, cars, motorcycles, van s ect, will all be fair game if breaking the speed limit, campaign will be over the next 2 - 3 weeks....

So you were doing 45 in a 30? Careful now.

But yes. Fiery death for the bastards. Think of the kittens they might have killed.

It's funny how speed limits all feel like personal insults.

Do they have cameras that can look round the back of my bike? Laughing

Eh, I consider all traffic signs to be advisory, and if passed by a Plod or Plod-lite vehicle without blues, will happily bow to their highly trained judgement about what constitutes a safe speed for the conditions.

Im sure a read a post here about someone following an unmarked while on a training mission at above the speed limit.
If i recall right i think the argument against doing so was the fact that the plod are highly trained and members of the public are not hence they can drive faster than us. Confused

Yes they are all very highly trained, as an ex mate never ever tired of telling us (ex traffic cop)
He doesn't ride any more, he was so highly trained he ended up in hospital for three months after binning it on the Isle of Man.
He had more "accidents" and wrecked more cars and bikes than anyone I've ever known.

Nods to that.

I believe that a lot of coppers - not all, a lot - get into Traffic so that they can grow a stupid moustache, hoon around, have a chase, and give a hypocritical lecture at the end of it. It would be utterly ridiculous to pretend otherwise, unless the police manage to recruit blokes who have sublimated their natural hunting and pursuit instincts.

It's the unmarked bike pursuits that really boil my piss, where coppers make exactly the same judgement about manoeuvres as the bike they're chasing, and repeatedly come to the same conclusion: there's room, there's time, I can get through there without having a smash. And then do the bike in front for "dangerous driving", while claiming that their own near identical riding was somehow safer . The slapheads are kidding nobody.

In my pedant mode I'd like to point out that even police officers are civilians.

A civilian is defined as not an active member of a county's armed forces. This is defined in international law by the Geneva Convention and other such updates.

So, unless there has been some change in the constitution I am unaware of or the UK government has abandoned international law then police are civilians. Should a police officer call you a civilian it might be worth pointing that out. Although given they can be power mad sociopaths do so at your own discretion.

Ok, pedant mode now off Very Happy

Yup, been passed by one doing well in excess of the limit, almost caught one ramming a car that stopped suddenly to pull a U turn on video, the driver was booting it as usual... Hampshire have got wise to that, the weekly service visits are done by a bloke riding a Deauville now...

We can all die in a fire. Most humans are made of combustible material (some spontaneously so!). Throw a live copper or some other animal in a fire and its flesh will burn up, thus making it dead once its finished burning. Unfortunately this is an unlikely scenario for all the speed camera vans and their operators.

I remember my dad getting stopped by a young, inexperienced copper (both in cars) about 3/4 of a mile past a "50" sign, after a "40" area...

Young cop swaggers up and says: "Do you know why I've stopped you, sir?"

Dad: "No."

Cop: "Do you know how fast you were travelling, sir?"

Dad: "Yes, 50."

Cop: "And do you know the speed limit, sir?"

Dad: "Yes, 50."

The other cop in the car arrives and says: "Now apologise to the gentleman and tell him he can be on his way."

As they walk back to their car my dad overhears 2nd cop saying: "Now, why do you think the general public think we're a bunch of arrogant c***s? Try to look out for speed signs and NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!".
