Hi all,

I've currently got a GSX-R600 L1 - very nice bike but...I don't ride for speed and while it is comfortable for a sports bike, it isn't as comfortable as I would like really since I don't particularly like the riding position...I did when I was a kid but not so much nowadays.

When I bought the GSX-R I had intended to buy a Street Triple but was swayed by the deal at the time on the Suzuki and the sporty looks.

Now I've got another deal on the table that I'm happy with that would see me on a brand new Street Triple R.

I think the Striple will be more every day user friendly since I just plod about and don't go to tracks etc. But I see a new Street is due next year so it might be worth waiting for...albeit I'm being offered a good trade in for the Gixxer now on account of it being as new and low mileage.

Comments from those who have ridden both much appreciated.

Just go for the street, youll be happy enough with it.

I doubt the new model next year will be mountains better, though if you are that way inclinded it could be compared to having an Iphone 3 when the Iphone 4 has come out.

Stuff like that botheres some folk.

Though the new model will no doubt be more expensive, so youll get a better deal now.

Yeah, just read that the engine etc are identical so it is probably just a styling exercise anyway - in which case I prefer the 2010 model! But I've come around to liking the pentagonal lights now so not too fussed about having the latest thing unless there is a big diff in performance spec for the same money.

Insurance is cheaper too...much cheaper! Will save £300/ yr there alone. Dunno about the other running costs yet.

I don't think I've heard a bad work about the Street Triple. Best bike for the road apparently.

If you aren't sports bike orientated it's a cracking bike. I can't ride a sports bike for long without a lot of pain, I can the striple, and to be honest it suits me. 100 is about the fastest before I become a sail and it becomes a trial to ride. Sub 100 should keep me out of gaol! Laughing

My thinking exactly...when I was commuting on it recently I had sore wrists and back. I really like the look of a sports bike but mine hasn't been anywhere near the business end of the rev range and hasn't been used as intended.

When I was in my twenties I maxed out my bike on a daily basis - was a right idiot at times too! But the years have calmed me down it seems and speed doesn't impress me nearly as much. Sub-100 is pretty typical nowadays.

Went from a K7 Gsxr 750 to a new Street Triple R 5 weeks ago, same thing for me, sore wrists, cramp, going too fast cos I could etc, boy am I glad I changed. The Striple has to be the most fun bike I've ridden since the days of the YPVS, it's like a powervalve on steroids.
Comfortable, sharp handling, good brakes and the engine is a peach, just roll it on from 2K in any gear and it goes. Not much slower than the gixxer when you wind it on so I bet it's at least on par with the 600 version but in a more relaxed way.
No choice for me, STR every time.

Use mine as a daily and been great thru snow ice and rain its never let me down,i was looking to change for a fireblade or gsxr750 but the triple such a good bike that id keep it as my daily and get a superbike for a weekender.make sure you get a aftermarket exhaust as it transforms the sound of the bike.

If you have one of the best 600cc supersports in the world, and don't enjoy it to the power of 1000000, you obviously have to change bike.

Answered your own question here mate.

My friend had the L1 and it was smooth and really lovely with a Akra Moto GP exhaust. Guaranteed everyone looks at your bike.

The Triumphs have had such good feedback and is the in thing now though.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, much appreciated Cool

I'm torn today as to what I should do - had an opportunity to go out for a bit, even though it is raining, and the Gixxer has a lot of things going for it.

Bottom line - I need to test ride the Striple and have a back to back comparison.

Make sure you get the GXSR in the shell-suit colours, the plain black is far too tasteful.

the gixxer is probably the best/most accomodating of the sports 600's. If you can't feel happy on one, you need a striple/hornet/fazer type bike.

The street triple is the dogs bollocks of the nakeds. I've ridden them all, own a striple and a fazer 600 & wifey has n er6N. The street triple is in a clss of its own.

Get a street triple R Thumbs Up

I had a chat with a friend who is also a bike instructor today and he reckons I'm just riding the Gixxer wrong and need to adopt a better riding position for sports bikes. Shocked

He mentioned a few things he believes I'm doing wrong and so I'll try his remedies starting tomorrow. If it works, great, I'll keep the Gixxer. If not, hello Street Triple R. Cool
