Stranded, bike will not start, need help ASAP

Hi all, need you advise or help, just about to leave work, started the bike to warm the engine up, suddenly the engine stop running, so i press the electric starter, nothing happen, only a ticking sound coming out under neath the seat when ever i press it, what can i do? can i get out of london tonight??

Maybe your neutral light is showing incorrectly, sit on the bike, and push the stand up, clutch in and attempt to start.

Check engine kill switch, check fuel is on.

**When bumpstarting, use second gear.

i had this prob when i was warming up me dads R1!! it was a wee button that needed pressing!

Sounds like the battery is nearly flat, the ticking sound is most likley the starter solenoid (the electromagnetic switch that sends power to the starter motor) chattering. This is almost always a symptom of low power in the battery.

You wil either need to find someone with jump leads or try to bump start it down a hill. Second gear, clutch in, ignition on, get some speed up down the hill then pop the clutch and sit heavily on the seat at the same time to help stop the back tyre from sliding. Hopefully it will fire up. Don't stop the engine until you get home!

Hi

If it is a CBR600 then they have a nasty little starter relay that costs a stupid amount (~£80) and which also controls the power to the rest of the bike. If you have lost all power but the battery is fine then I would suspect this little pain.

Check the kill switch, check the side stand switch and be sure it's not in gear. When you do manage to get home, join the AA.

yeah it a cbr600f. I left work around 9ish, after bump starting it. Great i thought, dont need to stop cos just next to the m4.

Couldnt belive it, road works!! F**k sakes!! Today of all days. I tried to keep the bike rev high all the time but once it stop had to bump start again, lost count how many times i bump start the her.

So looks like i have to take it back to the dealer, lucky i still have warranty on it. hopefully they can get it done in a day, its the only transportation i have.

do the lights work when the engine's off? if so it probably is the battery, even if the voltage is ok. Trying another battery or giving it a good charge might save you a trip to the dealer.

lights are working. When i got home, i pressed the elect starter, nothing, completely dead. Battery or not, i thinks it better if i take it to the dealer and get it look at.

I dont understand why it went dead so quickly, i only had the bike for a month, a month today. Not sure why it went dead so quickly, could it be the alarm?

quite possibly, if you haven't done many long journeys regularly. If it does turn out to be the battery, get a atrickle charge like an optimate.
And make sure your little bugger of a brother doesn't keep unplugging it

Ask them for a bike to borrow, explain about how you need your bike for transport and it breaking so unexpectably will cause major problems as you need transport.

It is the time of year for spontaneous battery death but from what you describe, there is a more fundamental problem somewhere as once started, the bike should keep running on the power it is generating even on tickover. It is possible that your voltage regulator is malfunctioning (not unheard of on honda sportsbikes?) or something is drawing a lot of current. Bit of a moot point if it is still under warranty though, not your problem

A friend had this on his bike the other day as we were about to leave work. he had kicked the sidestand up partially, he kicked it up the rest of the way and still nothing. only after he kicked it down, then back up again did it work.
Could be that your side stand switch is broken.

Turn the lights onto full beam, then try and start it. if everything dims alot then its your battery.

Oh, and make sure you try starting it in neutral as well, could be a dodgy clutch switch.
