I have done some mocks and it seems mostly common sense but they have some tough ones in there asking about braking distances for 50/60/70mph. Obviously this stuff you need to learn.

Can anyone remember any other questions that need to be memorised?

I passed my theory not long ago. I think you've pretty much got it spot on really. Only hard question was braking distances. Apart from that if you have a basic knowledge of road signs and general conduct on the road you'll be fine Thumbs Up Make sure you don't click loads on the hazard perception too. I got disqualified from one clip because I clicked so much. If anyone ahead indicated to change lanes I clicked, it there was a change in speed limit I clicked. They told me to highlight anything I saw as a potential hazard that would potentially make me take action and when I did they had a problem with it. Clearly the only hazard in their books is a massive lorry pulling out in front of you- I don't think they do subtlety.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Only other figure I remember memorising is minimum tread depth, 1mm for central 3/4 of the tyre & outer circumference. I got this wrong in the mocks, I answered 1.6mm but 1.6mm is for a car.

The most annoying questions are those which the correct answer is arguable. E.g. why are diagonal yellow lines painted across the road?
1) To make you aware of your speed (correct)
2) To tell you about the distance to the roundabout

They are there to warn you of your speed at approach to a hazard, but when you see them, it's also a really good indication that you're not far away from a roundabout.

My theory test questions were stupidly easy... One of the questions was -

"You are on a motorway, the road ahead of you is clear - what lane should you be in?"

One of the answers was "All of them" Laughing

I nearly fell off of the chair in laughter.

Slightly off topic but what about the hazard perception part?

I ask as my lad will be taking his very soon. The mock examples I've found for him online I've found quite hard. One refused to give me a score saying I cheated. I guess that is because I kept clicking on potential hazard rather than a developing hazard.

So any pointers to good online hazard perception or any tips on these welcome Thumbs Up

Fork out a tenner on a hazard perception video(game) from WH Smiths. Well worth it. A couple of online videos isn't enough.

HPT is just a video game, with lots of practice you can't really fail.

I got my Theory/Hazard CD from Poundland. They are back in our local branch so presume are in all branches. I found it a help knowing what to expect but still got a zero on one of the hazard clips for clicking too much.

It can throw some unusual curve balls at you that will make you stall. Seemingly random and nothing to do with driving/riding as well.

if you get one or two that doesn't click or doesn't conform to any standard of common sense, use the flag and zip through the rest, don't just guess. Come back to it/them and use your time, you're in no rush.

Great! Smile

The theory test for the car test was pretty straight forward as well (i passed mine last summer) so barring too many bike specific technical questions it should be very familiar for me.

From recollection the only tough questions were in relation to stopping distances, and once the penny dropped that as it's a multiple choice question the correct answer was going to be there anyway; I figured out a way to remember the speed/distance relationship and that was it.

The stupid thing for me was getting one question wrong and being mad with myself - though I'm convinced it was the one question that hadn't cropped up in all the practice tests I did via a DVD.

Bottom line is read the Highway Code, practice the tests and you'll find it harder to fail !
