What bike is it?
It sounds like a problem with the clutch release mechanism. Is it cable or hydraulic? ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Cable clutch. Find the adjuster on the engine and adjust the pushrod, then set the free-play on the cable. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
