 Posted: 11:22 - 22 May 2012 Post subject: Opinions - Was I in the correct lane? |
 |
|
Had a bit of an argument with a sunglasses wearing cager this morning. He then promptly stuck his fingers up at me out of the window and I grinned and gave him the thumbs up.
Anyway, I'd just like your opinions on this. Was I in the right!?
https://imgsharer.eu/uploads/299/route_1337684533.png
See [fig-1]. I'm turning right onto the main road, then turning left off of it a bit further up. The left turn is actually two roads, and I want to be in the right of those two.
https://imgsharer.eu/uploads/906/first_1337684741.jpg
So here's me before the right turn [fig 2]. I position myself in the LEFT lane. Cager positions himself in the RIGHT lane.
I go round the corner, and I am still in the left lane, ready to take a left. The nob in question is in the middle lane (right of me).
https://imgsharer.eu/uploads/622/untitled_1337684882.jpg
The car on my right cuts into the first lane in-front of me, and then into the right lane of the left turnoff.
He promptly beeps his horn as I move infront of him from the left and shake my head, then sticks his fingers up at me! LOL! Clearly in a bad mood because of the traffic where as I'm all happy just whizzing past everyone.
So, is that left turn off ONLY for people in the left lane of the main road, or was the driver correct. I mean, i COULD see it from his point of view, but what if I'd been going straight on instead of turning left? He would've hit me!

Cock-head caused you take avoiding action, he's wrong. That'll be cold comfort when he takes you out tomorrow though, so own your road a bit more. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

He was 100% in the wrong. You don't cut across a lane of traffic to get to your exit - I've seen enough episodes of Road Wars to know ____________________ CBT Passed - 22 / 10 / 11 >> Theory Passed - 16 / 02 / 2012 >> Mod 1 Passed - 07 / 03 / 2012 >> Mod 2 Passed - 18 / 05 / 2012. |

Look at it this way. You started off in the wrong lane to turn right at the light. Then you took the lane that the car drive was planing to use.
Now revers the rolls. Your the car driver and someone else is on the bike. Your sitting in the correct lane to the right, and a bike is sitting on your inside. You are thinking the bike is going to go straight on. You are intending to turn and take up the inside lane to then turn left. But what happens the bike turns as well your way. Taking up your inside lane. The car drive wait's hoping that on the next left you are going to swing off taking the inside lane giving the car drive room to do his turn as well, into the out side lane of that left turn, But no the bike rider take your outside lane on the next left turn. There's not much you can do, but try and fit your self in there as well. To me you made all the wrong move's from the start. By not being in the out side line at the traffic light's, That way keeping the car behind you. That way the car has to follow, No way could it over take and then turn left if you had been in the right position the keep the car behind.
That's how I see it.

looks like the car was in the wrong lane to make the left side exit after the traffic lights despite the two lanes off to the left. You don't exit a motorway from the outside lane do you? When you see that car again or someone else doing the same thing, just give them a "what for" with your gloved hand ____________________ Adios to Bandit and Ninja. Hello VFR. |

Regardless I wouldn't have entered that junction into the r/h lane, I would have entered into l/h and moved over when needed unless there was an obstruction in the left lane. |

So nobody whatsoever should enter that right hand lane of the left turn-off, until they have first been in the left lane?
I'm not going to argue with that. BUT, if ANYONE should enter that right lane straight away, it should be those on the left lane of the main road only. Also, it's poorly signposted and a lot of people will be cutting across the first lane in order to get into that right lane.
Just called Blackpool Police, showed them this post, they said I was completely in the right (as I could have gone straight on and nobody should cut across a lane), and that I need to get onto the council ASAP. So, here's hoping I might make it a safer place (probably not, but at least I can try...) ____________________ Left the forum. |
