so if you change to LED indicators you need a LED flasher unit because its the heat in the current that makes the indicators flash.

well i THOUGHT that if you put LED dash bulb in the indicator bulb sockets in your dash you'd still need a LED flasher unit and change to LED indicators...

well i thought i'd rip my dash apart, install the LED dash bulbs into the indicator bulbs and well it all works perfectly, the leds flash, the indicators flash.

all to the correct timing.

i thought it wouldnt work as your putting resistors in the circuit.

any ideas why it DOES work?

edit: im not complaining, now i can see the indicators in the dash, but just trying to work out why it does work because i cant figure it out lol

Is it because they have built in resistors?

well the led dash bulbs have the resistors in them and the current just passes through the bulbs. so the current leaving the led bulbs is restricted.

i guess you can see why i find it a little wierd it all worked fine lol

I thought this was now the case for all LED replacement bulbs whether just for the dash or in the indicators, tail light, brake light, etc.

depends on if your bikes indicators or parallel or serial i suppose but yes, the current will go through the led bulb and what leaves would be restricted due to the build in resistors.

Not all indicators require resistors fitting, the flash rate on some systems is controlled by load on the circuit, others externally by means of flasher relays etc.

If the flash rate is controlled by an external system then changing to LEDs will not require any additional modifications.
