Just typed half of this up and somehow managed to press ctrl+w -_-
- Maybe this should be in the workshop, oops
Anyway.
As a lot of you know I had a crash in April, the 12th of April to be exact, It was my fault, the insurance company is paying out to the third party.
I called the local bike mechanic and they agreed to pick up my bike, inspect it and give me a quote for repairs. Ok great. They came on the following monday, the 16th April, and collected my bike.
The frame needed straightening, a fork was forked, and the clocks were smashed, is the major damage, oh, and a dented tank where it fell over after I got it home (additional -_- face required)
They gave me a price of roughly £500 to repair it, which I was happy enough with, (that's a price for stripping the whole thing, straightening it, putting it back together, second hand clocks and tank)
We're now in june and it's still waiting for clocks and a tank, I spoke to the guy over a week ago and said "well if it's taking this long to find second hand parts, just buy new ones, fuck it" basically, to which brought the new total up to allegedly £800
Verging on not worth it, but the wheels are in motion (lol) and I just want my bike back so whatever, i'll throw money at it.
Every time bar once the guy has said he would call me and hasn't, he said i'll find the clocks let you know how much they are and call you to confirm before we order them. Nothing.
So I go into the garage and the guy says the same thign he said last week, still looking for second hand clocks, very rarely come up, to which I was like, I thought we agreed on putting on new parts.
Ok.
So this week, I speak to the guy (seems to be this one guy thats dealing with my bike noone else wants to know. So I spoke to the guy on tuesday (I think) and he says okay mate, gives me the sympathetic eye because I said its been nearly 2 months now and says okay, I can promise you we'll get it rolling and rideable by either thursday or the weekend. "Is that a promise?" I asked. "Yes" He replied. Great I thought.
So the next day I get a voicemail from the guy saying come into the garage (its down the road from where I work)
Great I thought, progress maybe. So I gets there and the guys not even there gone to the doctors apparently. Ok fair enough, i'll come in tomorrow then.
I come in the next day, the guys not there, suddenly in london apparently, and the other mechanic guy says something nobbish like "Its in the same state it was yesterday mate" to which I was like "Well the guy promised it'd be ready for the weekend"
I speak to the guy I was dealing with's son who also works there, very pleasant chap, sounds like he knows what hes talking about and seems reliable, he says ok I will find out off my dad whats happening and whether the clock and tank are on there way (as he apparently told them not to order them, so they assumed they had already been ordered) I tell him i'm at work but have an hour between 12 and 1 where I can talk freely. (Today he was meant to call)
No call.
No voice mail, nothing.
So what, i've gotta go in their AGAIN after work today (I can tell they're sick of seeing me from there little comments)
Or just leave them and hope for the best.
But I seriously think if I didn't call or go in all the times I have done, absolutely nothing would get done. I have given them my mobile number on 4 separate occassions, each time they're like "OK give us your number"
I get they have a lot on and it's a popular time but fuck. My bike is mostly labour, it's been 2 months and I just fucking want it back!
I don't know whether to be angry or patient
Rant over -_-"
lol that came out a lot longer than expected
I know most of you are probably thinking £800 thats barely worth fixing. I know. Come too far now, do you think i'm being fucked by the mechanic?
I'm not going to name them because i'm not sure whether i'm being unreasonable or they are. I JUST WANT MY BIKE BACK, I HAVE THE MONEY. ____________________ Fzr-600 1999 |

For less than £800 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-YAMAHA-YBR-125-RED-/330740766563?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item4d01af9763#ht_794wt_1194
Or take the bike home, don't give them a penny, fix it yourself.
It's easy enough.
Keep phoning breakers to find parts like forks, wheels, clocks, etc. You can reset the mileage on the new clocks to match your real mileage by using a drill to turn the Speedo Sensor thing. Do it forwards not backwards, so that it hits 99999 then rolls back over to 00000, then just carry on slowly until you hit your mileage.
You could even buy a bike with a knackered engine to nab the frame from.
You don't even need clocks to get back on the road though.
I took my bike out the other day with no mudguard, broken ball-end on front brake lever, no bar-ends, no mirrors, no fairings, no indicators (for the first few miles, until I arrived at the bike shop to buy bulbs), no headlight, bent handlebars and the cover for the generator held on with gaffer tape (well, it's only glued on anyway). Click "it's a rat" in my sig, you'll see
Felt bloody good though. ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

What the fuuuck that YBR is cheap as shit, high mileage though
Mine only had 3k miles and was a 2009 model which was £1099
Yeah I know, that's what people told me to do initially but I thought, i'll just throw money at it I don't mind, i'll pay for the convenience and have it back on the road fairly quickly wihtout having to fuck around with insurance. Nope hassle hassle hassle.
The thing is theyve already straightened the frame and put it back together and done some other bits, so I can't exactly take it away and not pay them , although I am getting close to saying i'll pay for what they've done so far and take it away. It'd be faster to do it myself, even though i dont have the slightest fuck of an idea what i'm doing.
But that YBR is cheap as shit!
as far as I know you need a working speedo in MPH to legally ride?..but I suppose as long as you dont break the speed limit whats the problem ____________________ Fzr-600 1999 |

As far as I know you also need a mudguard, but the copper didn't stop me!
If you're concerned about the mileage, you could but that YBR and swap the engines over!
I'd pay and take it as is then. You could probably do the rest yourself.
I have no idea either but I'm managing just fine. Just make sure that you remember how things came off so that you can put them back on! Plenty of information on the internet. ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

I think this is what i'm going to do, I went in again after work and spoke to the guy, he said he hasnt ordered the clocks or the tank ebcause he thinks its a waste of money (I thought it was my decision but ok, he's right really)
So we're waiting on the fork as he straightened it but doesnt think its very safe, so fuck that, new fork coming. Once thats on hes gonna bodge the old clocks back on so it looks like they're there and i'm taking it home
But don't worry, its still gonna cost fucking £500!
"Yeah so the clocks will be £200 i'll add that on the price, okay not getting the clocks now i'll take £150 off the price"
What?!
I've had enough now, I really might just buy that you linked, bargain, but its 2006, mines 2009 and FI, don't know if that is think it became FI in 2007

There are tanks on ebay starting at £20 ,clocks are £50 but I
highly doubt Yamaha made one off clocks for the YBR .
Try comparing some Yamaha ones on ebay against yours?
Dealers aren't worth the cheese off my dick |

So they are stripping and rebuilding the bike.
Straightening the frame and fork all for £500.....
So @ £40 a hour thats 12.5 hours labour....
That is not counting the cost of picking the bike up and any parts needed.
No wonder its taking so long, they must be doing on the side when they can fit it in....
I expect your bill to be a lot higher ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Alpha, buy the high miler and run it.
If the engine goes pop you've got a spare low mileage engine!
Whatever breaks due to high mileage its all there in the garden, and im more than happy to talk you through taking it to bits and putting it together again
And while you've got it have a look on ebay for some low mileage clocks to improve the resale value ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

That model is 2006 I don't think its fuel injection :siren: or is it?
Where are these elusive tanks? They also need to be for the fuel injection model
They're alright guys really, I think. And yeah they have a lot on so I guess i'm not exactly high priority but then again with it mostly being labour thats pure profit surely ____________________ Fzr-600 1999 |

Should have repaired it yourself, is it a YBR? because unless you crashed dead into something at 30+mph i doubt the frame is bent.
Normally the yoke bends which causes the illusion of a damaged frame.
If it was me i'd say fuck them off and DIY, this is how you become a real biker, you fix your fuck ups yourself instead of getting your arse wiped. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |
