This happened to a Fireblade....

Keep your tools secure... It took some hitting things with rocks and people holding the back wheel off the floor to drop the back wheel out to get that spanner out of there and get the bike mobile again. The toolkit from the Daytona was very useful Thumbs Up

The rider was very lucky that it happened at about 10 mph as we were slowing down for a junction, it locked the rear wheel solid and wouldn't even rock backwards (can't see it in the picture but the other end is wedged against the top of the swing arm).

that looks like it could have ended in a rather messy accident.

And I thought the spanner (not mine) through my brand-new rear a few years ago was bad. Shocked

I presume its more comprehensive than the D675 toolkit then? It consists of a Philips screwdriver and a 5mm Allen key, which you have to use to get to the screwdriver!

Aye there's allsorts in there, one of my spanners was perfect for his rear spindle nut, another fitted his chain adjusters someone else had an adjustable spanner which helped straighten his now bent chain side adjuster. and the big 10mm allen key from my tool kit + a big rock were used to knock the spindle out, there was an insane amount of tension in that chain.

If this had found its way in 30 seconds earlier the bike was clocking triple figures, in the middle of nowhere with no phone signal Sick doesn't bare thinking about really.

I think he had been in his tool kit for something earlier in the week and not fastened it properly, with the vibrations the biggest bits had come out and worked their way down, it had probably settled on top of the swing arm and when he hit the brakes the sprocket hooked it in.

Would now be a bad time to suggest backing off the chain adjusters then pulling the front sprocket sideways off the splines as a way to remove that without having to remove the rear wheel?

A similar thing happened to me a few months back.

Tne nut that holds the front sprocket on, came off and got stick just like that spanner.
I to was doing about 10-15mph and it locked that back wheel.

If it had happened earlier I would have been travelling far faster and it would have been messy.

I had to call the AA as the chain lifting off the sprocket hit and smashed my waterpump.

All that said. If it put that much of a bend in it at 15mph. At 100mph it would probably have gone right round and spat out the other side or destroyed the chain.

Should have seen what happened to the brake torsion bar on my GPZ500 when it came adrift at about 70mph. It would have locked the wheel too if it hadn't ripped the footpeg hanger casting off the bike then wrapped itself three times round the rear wheel spindle and sheared off at the other end.

We had nothing to undo the front sprocket with and the chain had pulled the wheel forwards on the chain side, bending and jamming the adjuster bolt on that side in the process. With the tools we had to hand (8mm open end spanner) that bolt was not moving until the tension was off it. We tried that first.

Edit
This type of adjuster

I have the same model and the toolkit (kept under the seat) is a little split at the side. I'll definitely be sorting that out. Thumbs Up
