CPI 50 SM Starting problems

Just wondered if anyone on here could help me out. My nephew has a 2009 CPI 50 SM with 600 miles on the clock. The problem is that when you try to start the bike with the electric start the engine locks up when it tries to fire. Then if you try to start it with the kick start the engine fires in to life for about 1 - 2 seconds then stalls. I tried on a different carb with a manual choke but just got the same result I have also fitted a new spark plug with no luck. I'm wondering if it could be the stator or cdi unit that might be causing the problem.

Will it start and run from a push?

Check the ignition timing - something may have slipped.

Bike won't start with a push and it's standard. I removed the flywheel and checked the stator to see if it could be adjusted but it seems that it wont adjust so the timing seems to be set at a fixed position. The cdi unit must control the timing.

At a guess the first carb was duff, probbably something float related and flooding the engine up good and proper. Or he's messed about with it, trying to "swop dem jetz boii" to go faster, and had it overfuel like fuck till the point where it wont fire.

The 2nd carb would've been non identical and set up in god knows what way and probbbably had it go stupid rich again, flooding it.

The fact that it fires and runs for a few seconds should tell you theres absolutely nothing wrong with the ingition timing, else it wouldnt have fired. Although, if you've ripped it apart and not put it back how it was then that opens a whole can of worms. Same with ripping carbs off and bunging em on.

Personally, i'd bet it's flooding or that the autolube pump needs setting up/replacement.

i know this bike its made by WK its a Derbi senda DRD clone. at one point i was going to stock them but price put me off at over £2.5K. if you are local and you still have warrenty im in broadstairs 144 westwood road in kent drop it in my number is 01843 866609. warrenty will cover parts as i will get them from the manufacturer if poss i will replace the engine and be done with it and you will have only labour to pay 3-4Hrs at £25 Phr. so depending on where you are is weither i can collect or not.

ive just reread your post WK the maker of your bike only give one year warrenty. but that does not mean i cant help. to strip and rebuild your engine i would estimate no more than 500£ inc vat, parts and labour. being a WK dealer parts wont be a problem.
