Chain clicking/jumping :(

Evening all,

I'm 17 on Thursday, so I thought I'd replace the old, rusty chain on the GT with the brand new one I bought a few months back. Went on fine, tightened as far as the old one, but when I took it round the block for a test ride, I noticed it would click and the acceleration would 'blip', then it only started to click when I let go of the throttle. I am hoping this is only stiff links as here https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=248722 but thought I'd better ask the experts Wink

I would normally attribute a clicking from the chain under deceleration to it being too slack and slapping against the swingarm along the top run. are you sure its tensioned correctly?

and don't do it up tight with no play, aim for 25-30mm of play and you are using new sprockets?

My chain used to make a clicking noise on my old 125.

Turned out to be one of the bolts on the chain guard (was too long), fouling the split link as it completed a revolution of the chain run.

I agree with serlant.
I also used to get a clicking noise when my chain was too slack when decelerating, as it was slapping against the swingarm.

First thing to do is check the chain tension.

Check for stiff linkes.

Also check that the wheel alignment isn't stupidly out of whack.
