I've noticed most 400 bikes stops producing around 1996 and the rear cowl lets the bike down , I've seen some bikes on eBay were they have changed the cowl to an r6 or r1 rear cowl how difficult would it be to modify to make a decent sporty looking cowl to give the bike a more modern look?

I'm level 2 qualified in motor mechanics so I'm not a novice persay , just need some expert advice

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

its harder than what you think,
there are a couple of ways of going about it,
each with pro's and con's
1st. get the new cowl, modify the subframe on the bike, weld bits in ect
and try to get all the fixing points to meet up.

pro- keep original wiring in place,
con - bastard of a job

2nd. get the whole subframe and seat cowl from donor bike,
remove the old subframe ect, and bolt the new one in place

pro- the whole seat unit will work as it was supposed to
con, you'll probably have to make/weld new subframe mounts etc,
normally no going back,

ive done it to a couple of bikes, its always much more involved than what you expect, you need good fabrication skills, and welding ability would be a bonus,

far easier to leave as is,
but you want to do it. do it

If you want something that looks like a modern 600 then get a modern 600, leave the 90's sport bikes alone Thumbs Up (besides whats wrong with the tail units Confused I find it part of the appeal personally)

Only seen one remotely good looking tail conversion on a ZXR 400 (think the threads on here actually) but still looked nothing on the original.

I understand the reason ppl like to keep things original ect but don't u think they look boring , I mean I want to be different !! , I want to pull up to a shop and have ppl staring at the bike maybe because it looks bad or looks good , Dosnt matter , as long as I don't have the same bike as somebody else .

Ive seen some track day 400 s around and not going to lie they look pretty slick , just wanted to get a road bike looking the same,

Also I'm 17 so can't get a 600 really too much to insure.

But thanks for the help , Well thanks for the help hmmmnz

build a bike from scratch. Grafted subframes generally look cack.

Look up TYGA bodykits.

They are tacky shite but might be right up your street.

Put the orignal panels in the loft for when you eventually see sense Thumbs Up .
