I was in the garage doing some work on the bike the other day and was pondering over a cigarette about the fact I don’t keep anything of any use in my car. I keep the jump leads in the garage, there’s a triangle and hi-viz jacket, some spark plugs that I kept when i installed some new ones.

It made me think that’s a bit daft, so what, if anything, do you guys keep in your car, just in case?

Ok, this is useful information. Thumbs Up
Where and how do you keep these items? I imagine in the boot but do you use a small box or bag or something?

This is going to sound funny but...

I keep a bottle of Febreeze in my car.

Interior screen wipes and a rag.

The car comes with a toolkit, warning triangle, cargo net etc etc, and thats all I need.

Maps/poncho/umbrella etc in glove box and door pocket.

Tools/boots in a cardboard box in the boot. KFC wrappers in the rear footwells Wink .

Footpump in the spare wheel well.

In one of the side pods in the boot I keep a bicycle tail pack with screen-wash, tyre pressure & tread gauges, a few basic tools and (if memory serves correctly) a torch. If it's a German car I keep a litre of oil in there as well. Never owned a Japanese car that needed it.

Also de-icer and an ice scraper in the winter months which I usually neglect to remove in the summer.

I used my last car a lot in Europe so I had hi-viz vest, spare bulbs, warning triangle as per French law, but that's all in the shed now.

Fold up shovel

This is all interesting stuff. I have nothing of mechanical use in my car on the grounds that i know nothing about them and am only likely to make things worse by taking a wild and utterly uneducated guess before lunging at it with tools. I'm in green flag and keep my mobile on me like a proper bint, but that's it Embarassed

Everything else in the car is useful outside of fixing it so bin bags and shopping basket (took a seagull to the bird hospital with them on tuesday), wellies, pac-a-macs, Himself's kite and football, wet-wipes, sun-cream, bottles of drink, map, lighter, parking change, pen and paper, gaffer tape (it's the law!) and a hammer (just cos there aren't many things that can't be improved with a good whack Wink )

Footpumps have appeared a few times, am i missing something? Is the spare tyre uninflated as standard and you need a pump it up to use it? (i've had the car since september and this is only now occurring to me Doh! )

+1, except for it being AutoAid not AA.

I have still got a jack and wheel brace in with the puncture kit since my trip to Ireland, should really remove that

Just looking on Ebay and there appears to be some nice handy little kits for roadside issue’s. I think this combined with a few specifics would be good to have.

Emergency road side car kit

You'd not want to get a puncture and find that your spare tyre is low on pressure Smile

My pump is an electric one - foot pumps involve actual work.

When I go to Tesco to do The Big Shop, I leave the heavy stuff like dog or cat biscuits in the boot, as well as the 12-roll loopaper, till I get round to needing to bring them in, cos I've got a dodgy arm at the moment.

A few weeks ago I left a couple of big bags of carrots, spuds and onions in there, but accidentally forgot about them, only to remember two (hot summer) days later, when they were all sweaty, smelly and slimy.

Apart from that, I have fairly standard stuff: foot pump, jump leads, bungys, a blanket, several bottles of water and a bowl for the dog.

Oh, and about ten kilos of dog hair under the back seat Rolling Eyes

Thank you! You've saved green flag a call from an ill-prepared bint. I shall put the foot-pump in the boot Thumbs Up

I cleaned mine when i got it so it was all spotless and nice to be in. This was pointless however as it's main use is transporting boys around and no matter how often i clean it every time i put my hand under any of the seats all i find is crisp crumbs, lolly sticks, bogies, snotty tissues, mud, dogshit, sticks, snails, seaweed, sand etc etc etc. It's always slightly sticky and i have to drive with the window open as it mostly smells of trainers and farts.

Beastly creatures Mr. Green

oh, the sticky farty accidents. Yes, for them too. Mine came out of school yesterday in half pe kit and half school uniform. There was one shoe sticking out of his backpack and another rammed in his book bag. He had a crust on his face made of snot and wotsit dust and had not only stepped in dogshit but managed to rub it up the other (non-shitty-shoe) leg so it was in his sock and all up his shin. In his school bag were some daisies he'd picked for me when they were doing sports day practice. . . . .over two weeks ago Sick Laughing

I have to carry wet wipes to make up for the fact that social services would get all shitty if i made him sit on a tarp in a trailer being pulled a hygienic distance behind the car. Crying or Very sad Wink
