 |

hi Guys,
Looking to replace my chain and sprockets on my 2005 Honda VT 125 Shadow. It's done nearly 12,000 miles and I suppose it's time for a change.
Should I go for the O ring or X ring? Not quite sure which to go for as the haynes manual says it's DID520DM.
Anyone recommend the kit i should go for. Don't mind speanding a little extra if it means better qualit/performance etc...

If you're going to change the sprockets too, I can highly recommend using genuine Honda sprockets rather than aftermarket ones. As anyone will tell you, the longest lasting chain they ever had on their bike was the one it came with when it was new.
Honda actually make chain and sprocket kits for most of their bikes and they aren't bad in terms of price compared to pattern ones. It's just getting hold of them that seems to be inexplicably difficult.
A Honda dealer SHOULD be able to get one in for you, it's just persuading them to do it that can be difficult, because looking a Honda part number up on the computer then ordering it is such an effort and clearly not the job of someone who works in a motorcycle spares department at a Honda franchise.
I can't find a part number for a kit but here's the ones for the seperate sprockets:
Front sprocket: 23801-KGB-900
Rear sprocket: 41200-KGB-900 ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

As Stinkwheel says really.
But if you cant do that then as long as you buy a decent brand of chain (DID) then it wont make much difference whether you go for an O or X ring.
Just make sure its adjusted and lubed properly.

It's a 125, I wouldn't bother with a decent chain, I'd screw everything I can out of the old one then buy a shite cheap non o ring to replace it. in 4000 neglectful miles my 125 only needed it's crap standard Chinese chain adjusted once. they just don't have enough power for it to matter in my experience, for what little gain there is it's not worth the money and effort. totally different story with something bigger ____________________ 57 Huoniao HN125-8 - , 97 Kawasaki GPZ500S -

I'm about to order but I can seem to find any DID520DM. I can find DID520VX, and other numbers.
What should I do? ____________________ 2010 Honda FES S Wing 125 |

Honda do sell a 'kit' as per Lings
https://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda_motorcycle_parts_selection_pfk.php?block_01=13KGB1S1&block_02=F__2200&block_03=6373
But I would expect to pay this sort of price for a kit for my R1 and not for a 125.
I use a spring clip on my KTM enduro DID 'X' ring chain, but then it is being put under totally diiferant conditions to the R1.
Wemoto will do a reasonable quality chain and sprocket kit.But do not necessarily go for the cheapest.Poor quality or really cheap sprockets could be badly machined and be out of round. You might only find this out when adjusting the chain once fitted, where you may well find that the chain is too tight in one place and too loose in a differant part of the rear wheel rotation.I have experienced this and could not figure this out until I removed the new rear sprocket from the wheel and checked it on a lathe, the centre hole having been machined slightly off centre. ____________________ Just talk bikes. What else is there?
