this, for the time being is so i can keep an eye on whats planned.

Basically im going to take the stock black and chrome theme and change over to white and chrome. I wanted something different, unique and very much visible while riding at night. So with that in mind i have two routes to go.

1) i've contacted CMPO to see if they can get me an unpainted fuel tank from the factory and how much it'll cost. Then i can primer coat (white), spray it with Vauxhall Polar White Hycote, then clear lacquer over that. The fairings would need to be sanded down, primer applied then painted and lacquered.

2) sand down the original tank (pain in the ass) and do all the above.

Once i have the tank and fairings all shiny and so white it blinds any idiot that gets close enough to it i'll turn my attention to the seat. YES the seat. I plan to change the black leather out for some white leather, so i'll have to ask extremely nicely if i can borrow my nans sowing machine and prey the 25 year old device can handle leather with some nice leather needles on it. i might even consider stitching in a pattern to it, but it depends how experamanty i feel lol.

And while all thats going on im making a lighting unit. It consists of a 12pc kit that has strips of 10, 5mm white leds in. they're bare ended so instead of interfearing with the bikes electronics and requiring a relay and all that hoobry doody stuff im going to install a lithion iron 12v 6500mah battery pack. Take an ABS box and install a variable resistor (potentiometer) into it with a nice rubber dial, also hook up a green power led just for hells sakes mostly. This way i can adjust the brightness depending on whats needed and make sure the white leds dont interfear with other road users ability to clearly see my indicators and tail/brake light.

Other possible modifications:

New front and rear indicators with clear lenses and the housings sprayed white to match
LED tail and brake light
Front running lights
Front Spot lights
Windshield

might consider doing this

https://i48.tinypic.com/343lrth.png

https://i49.tinypic.com/29f826u.jpg

not sure what else really.

as you can see all the mods evolve around being more visible at night (and daytime) which will with any luck reduce the chance of being dented.

only question is, how many of those mods legally need to be declared?

Colour change to white

Got the decals off, about all i can do for the time being. the luggage rack is still off so i can work with the led project easier.

https://i46.tinypic.com/e0o80o.jpg

original seat leather is off. Waiting for the new white vinyl leather to arrive in the post. Will be getting a staple gun and can of spray glue on friday so i can get the seat done.

https://i49.tinypic.com/vya5ol.jpg

heres the seat now recovered with white leather vinyl.

https://i48.tinypic.com/woeu.jpg

started work tonight for the complete and final seat cover. this has been cut from the same material the other one was cut from. but this has been cut to match the original seat components and i have begun hand stitching the peices together for test fitting and adjustments. once this has been done, i will machine stitch the seat cover, remove the current one and install this one onto the seat.

https://i45.tinypic.com/1zc6l4.jpg

primer and fuel filter arrived today.

tests went well and heres the good side panel with a few coats of primer

https://i50.tinypic.com/wk4uba.jpg

https://i50.tinypic.com/2uh5v0n.jpg

and heres one with more coats of primer. (this layer still needs sanding down) but its pretty much it for primer, burnt through 250ml of it and got this side panel done. (the tanks gunna be a pain) Still waiting for the colour coat paint to arrive which will hopefully be tomorow and hopefully it'll be another lovely day so i can get on with it!

and to give you an idea of it with the seat on the bike

https://i49.tinypic.com/xfx6br.jpg

and heres the tool box comparment painted white as well as the side panel.

https://i47.tinypic.com/vzwr50.jpg

got the damned seat stitched up! Mr. Green extremely happy with how it came out! Mr. Green

still needs sanding down to remove all the "bits" and a smoother finish.

https://i47.tinypic.com/29yg7o.jpg

now, 2 weeks time i can buy some polar white paint cans and maybe actually get a couple of coats of color on there!

custom led lighting unit

okay so im going to start off with the LED strip lighting. i'll be ordering the parts on friday but heres what you'll need if you want to try this one yourself.

12v LED strip lights (below is a link to the WHITE version)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251003057917?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
these are standard strops thats pretty universal.

1 ABS box to house the potentiometer and toggle switch.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230771429811?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

1 toggle switch with waterproof cover
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280812195880?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

1 500ohm potentiometer
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130684920895
this IS SUBJECT TO TESTING. i cant garantee this is the right OHM pot until i get to test it so use 500ohm loosely for now lol

double sided tape
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170819510170?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

and one power pack with charger
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390093839555?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

A note about these batteries! They will fit into the tool box holder underneath the battery. This makes removing the battery for charging very easy, HOWEVER its quite a loose fit and i would strongly recomend the battery is placed in a little bit of foam to stop it being thrown around inside or rattleing. Further, DO NOT LEAVE THE BATTERY IN THE BIKE OVERNIGHT. always remove the battery pack when not riding. This is to prevent water damage and risk of fire.

potentiometer rubber dial knob
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300542583689?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

you might also want some terminal blocks
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Terminal-Connector-Wire-Strip-Joiner-Block-3A-AMP-/300463364739?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item45f5031a83

you may also need some extra wire. to be honest, wire wise, because its running off its own power pack standard 7 or 12 strand home hi fi wire will do the job, just put heatshrink around any joins in the cable.

firstly, when you get the parts you want to test fit the led strips in the location you want to fit them.

clean the area with alcohol wipes and allow a few seconds to air dry.

apply the double sided tape to the strips and firmly press them into place.

run the wires so they meet up in a bundle and and identify the + and - wires, put all the + wires into one terminal block and secure down. do the same with the - wires.

https://i47.tinypic.com/312fok8.jpg

on the other side of the terminal block, place a wire into the + and run it up to the handle bars where your going to mount your ABS control box. allow 2 to 3 extra inches and cut off the rest thats not needed.

run a length from the ABS box position down to where you will mount your battery pack.

https://i50.tinypic.com/2zhpqn8.jpg

https://i48.tinypic.com/2ce1zc2.jpg

https://i47.tinypic.com/aw7t5.jpg

https://i47.tinypic.com/2n1hp2x.jpg

https://i45.tinypic.com/14no139.jpg

for now, lets turn our attention to the ABS box. firstly you need to work out how you will mount it to your bars, a satnav or mobile phone holder for motorcycles will allow you to screw/bolt the box to that then use that mount on your handle bars.

you'll need to drill a hole for the potentiometer + toggle switch in the ABS box. once thats done its wiring time again.

https://i46.tinypic.com/2vnjo95.jpg

you want to connect the wire from the LEDS + to one of the toggle switch's terminals. then take a spare peice and run from the switches other terminal over to pin 1 on the potentiometer. once those are soldered up. solder on the wire that leads to your power pack onto pin 2 of the potentiometer.

https://i50.tinypic.com/11io8bd.png

replace the lid of the ABS box and put on the potentiometers knob and and the cover for the toggle switch once you've placed the nuts on both the parts.

https://i50.tinypic.com/54buw1.jpg

the abs box can be mounted to your handlebars now.

https://i46.tinypic.com/2lc1mas.jpg

https://i48.tinypic.com/33yqdk7.jpg

https://i46.tinypic.com/2lc1mas.jpg

the wirng must be POWER PACK + > toggle switch > potentiometer > LED group terminal block + > LED group terminal block - > power pack -.

you will need to run a wire from the - on the led terminal blocks to the - on the battery pack.

once that is done, turn on the toggle switch and turn the potentiometers dial. if nothing happens check the wiring and make sure current is travelling. make sure the battery DOES NOT OVERHEAT.

Heres a video of the strips at night with the dimmer being adjusted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr-KdsDJXSk&list=HL1335996337&feature=mh_lolz

https://i45.tinypic.com/34nfssk.jpg

https://i47.tinypic.com/2ai26bs.jpg

lithium iron batteries CAN BE EXPLOSIVE and can cause serious harm. TAKE CARE WHEN USING THESE AND MOUNT AWAY FROM THE ENGINE.

advantages of this is its a safe, isolated unit that doesnt require ANY hacking of the bikes electronics as it runs on its own power unit. the one i have linked to allows you to easily charge it as it comes with a charger and wiring for it. this unit is safer than other li-on chargers around lol. another advantage is the adjustable brightness level. you can have it set full brightness when at a show or meet, and dim it down to improve other road users ability to see you when riding at night. fuseless and relayless theres only a few components to cause any issues. with appropriate heatshrink and waterproofing of the wires its a neat little unit to have.

i will update this and add pictures when i order the parts and receive them Very Happy

these handle bars actually give a very comfortable riding possition and posture. they're really not ape hangers. google for the bike make and model and you'll see they're pretty standard

probably, but the bike will be subjected to careful cleaning each week once its done.

its also just a temporary seat cover, im actually sowing together a properly tailored seat cover instead of the "stretched material" method due to those 2 folds on the sides. so hopefully that'll make keeping it nice a bit easier.

im also looking around for treatments for the material to make life easier.

oh nex jobs will be
applying the colour coat (polar white) to that side panel once the rattle can arrives.
removing the lower rear part of the mudguard and doing the sides of that
doing the tool box cover
coating the exhaust pipes up to the chrome in white heat resist paint

then i get to buy a palm sander and attack the crap outta that tank.

problem is the tank has a nice dent in the top, no sharp corners on it but cant seem to get the dent out so have to look into getting that done

Just a tip, don't use Halfords Petrol Resistant Lacquer...... It's not very resistant to petrol as a mate found out when her DIY bright yellow bandit got reversed over. The cage driver didn't see it Rolling Eyes .

Good effort so far though Thumbs Up

im actually using hycotes products, the etching primer, color coats and clear coat (not petrol resistant, but i'll just be careful instead) is all the same brand so hopefully it'll turn out okay

lol they're not all red. the fact theres 2 red wires is just because thats the + feed with a switch and dial in the line.

all the -'s and either hidden or in the tool box.
