 |
|
Hi I am new to Motorbikes, at the moment i am currently riding a 50cc Peugeot speed fight 2 moped and i am turning 17 soon, i was just wondering what 125cc motorbike would be best as i am unsatisfied with how slow my moped goes, of course sticking to speed limits is sensible but im kind of fed up with cars overtaking me all the time, they should respect the little man sort of speak.
Any advice/recommendations on what i should do now and specifications on some nice 125's would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks In advance
EDIT: which 125's are the best for cornering nicely, which 125's have a high top speed/acceleration and which 125's are the lightest? ____________________ I'm currently on a Peugeot Speedfight 2 moped 50cc |

Its a 125.... compared to your ped, ANY will be a revalation... DONT sweat the small stuff! Differences between ANY are tiny.
You are on the cusp kid, the Cusp.... you are lucky, turning 17 right now. Get a husstle on and you can get a full licence with a 125 before the NEW LAWS come January, see any-one under 24 basically STUCK on 125's until they are over 24....... thats a LONG TIME....
Here and now just get ANY chuffing 125 you can take tests on; save penies for some training & tests, and get the fucking licence!
you'll be under New Drivers Act and 33bhp restriction for two years, so LOOK AFTER your licence, get something sensible after, maybe an old 250 or something, that wont encourage you to be a tit, becouse LOOSE your licence before them two years is up, you will be under the new rules to replace it......
So.... See Webby:-
Where Do I start?
How do I get a Licence?
NEW LICENCE LAWS
Recommend Me a Learner-Bike!
Once you have realised that if YOU go about this the right way, and get ANY OLD 125 that you can get a licence with, and worry about the LICENCE not whether a YZF-R125 is 3mph quicker than a CBR125, or goes round corners better than a YBR125, and even if it does, YOU a 'Learner' will probably be the limiting factor NOT the bike....
And while your mates are all debating whether thier Derbi 125 is cooler than some-one elses Prilla 125, or some-one elses peugot 125, or some-one elses Honda 125....
YOU, with a full licence could be on a GS500 that cost less than any of them and pisses on ALL of them.......
Could this be a plan, kid?
ADD ON EDD:
Patience is a virtue. Lesson ONE LEARN SOME! Rushing is a fast way to get hurt on a motorbike, kid. You post at midnight, on a bulatin board, and expect instant answers? SENSIBLE people are asleep! And what are you going to do, run out to the dealersa to buy whatever bike we reccomend before breakfast?!?!?!? ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

one other piece of advice dude - listen to the above advice it may not be the most fun way of doing things in the short term, or make you look the coolest. but in 2 years time, you will be looking waaaaaay cooler than your mates when you have got a 'big' bike, and they are still tootling about on their tiddlers ____________________ Past - 1988 honda revere 600, 1996 kawasaki gpz500s, 1999 Yamaha R6

Thanks alot guys , really appreciate your advice and i think im going to go with what you are saying, i was thinking of doing my test and then getting a fireblade 900cc (restricted to 33bhp obviously) i can get one for roughly £1750 and as the getting a bike before breakfast yeah suppose that isn't likely
Hahaha so again thanks guys ____________________ I'm currently on a Peugeot Speedfight 2 moped 50cc |

It is illegal yes but as long as you don't do daft speeds past cameras or police you will be fine. 80% of old Mitos, rgs and rs' wont be restricted anyway its more likely that someone will have already took them off. |
Could apply the same logic and simply ride a Fire-Blade, you dont have licence, or valid insurance for.... bigger thrills, cheaper bills, same risk. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

why would you bother getting a fireblade if its just going to be restricted anyway? Get something sensible like a sv650 until you know what your doing...
Oh and expect cars to still overtake you on your 125 |

Oh and expect cars to still overtake you on your 125 |
even if your doing 50 in a 40 following a que of cars, that stupid royal mail van will still think you can go faster and overtake, then force you to go slower than 40!!!! - although, its nice when you get up the side of them and their trapped in the que of traffic and you just filter / overtake them
its not the bike, but the L's that make people overtake you...
i always have taxi's touching my back wheel as i ride home from work at about midnight, doing 50/60 in a 50 road (a46 outside stratford) so i slow down to let him pass safely, and he still doesnt pass...
people are nobheads trying to intimidate you / piss you off / etc.
but bear in mind: im 130kg, on a 125, and it still pulls off the line quicker than my Vx 1.6 twinport. fair enough, once im at 30/40, any car will pretty much piss on acceleration, but thats not where you need the speed ... once your moving
- i'll give you another bit of advice : DO NOT GET AUTOMATIC / TWIST n GO !!!!
Its a change getting used to gearings, but well worth it... power is pretty much immediate on my 125, on my old T&G 125 i had to sit reving to keep the power there with brakes applied at lights etc ready to go... I sit in neutral on my geared 125, on ambeer, clutch in, left foot down, ease clutch out little throttle and away... (the way your expected to do it on the test, only make sure you down move before green ) |
