Last week, was out riding with a friend when a copper "allegedly" saw me commit a traffic offense.
Bloody excellent photoshop illustration of events:-
https://i48.tinypic.com/2d8nktx.jpg
Note the blue car just after the zebra crossing, I photoshopped that in to show the exact position of where the copper said it happened. Green line is the path I rode, then filtered past the car, when the traffic copper (who was on foot on the right) spun round and allegedly saw me doing it.
There were loads more cars on the road and we were filtering in and out of them but that's the one that matters as that's what he says he saw. Problem was, I didn't see the copper at all and I don't remember doing that. About 2 miles down the road, my mate overtook me and signalled to pull over and told me what happened. He said the copper was waving his hand, trying to get me to stop but I just rode off.
At this point, we were heading back anyway, so I went home for a shower. After getting out the shower, I look out the window and there's a traffic car parked outside my house with a copper stood next to my bike on his radio.
Cut a long story short, he was saying he could report me for:
Riding without due care and attention
Failing to stop for a police officer
Overtaking a vehicle on a pedestrian crossing
I explained I didn't see him and he said I looked right at him but couldn't see my eyes because of the blacked out visor. I explained I would have been doing a life saver as I have no mirrors on the bike.
I got a ticket through the post today via recorded delivery. Just basically says he's only reporting me for " Overtaking moving vehicle pedestrian crossing limits ".
It says I need to wait for further instruction as to what they're going to do but what is likely to happen here? |

Note the bit I've highlighted and underlined from the regulations. You were on the exit side of the crossing.
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1997/2400/made
Prohibition against vehicles overtaking at crossings
24.—(1) Whilst any motor vehicle (in this regulation called “the approaching vehicle”) or any part of it is within the limits of a controlled area and is proceeding towards the crossing, the driver of the vehicle shall not cause it or any part of it—
(a)to pass ahead of the foremost part of any other motor vehicle proceeding in the same direction; or
(b)to pass ahead of the foremost part of a vehicle which is stationary for the purpose of complying with regulation 23, 25 or 26.
(2) In paragraph (1)—
(a)the reference to a motor vehicle in sub-paragraph (a) is, in a case where more than one motor vehicle is proceeding in the same direction as the approaching vehicle in a controlled area, a reference to the motor vehicle nearest to the crossing; and
(b)the reference to a stationary vehicle is, in a case where more than one vehicle is stationary in a controlled area for the purpose of complying with regulation 23, 25 or 26, a reference to the stationary vehicle nearest the crossing. ____________________ Blackmail is a nasty word........but not as nasty as phlegm!

I thought the zig-zags ment that you could not overtake the lead vehicle on the approach to the crossing? so once past the crossing it's fair game?
But if the copper remembers the overtake starting before the crossing (which he will, even if it didn't) then it's as above
Edit beaten to it, fekin slow old computer didn't update... |

@Donny, if I was following the green path from the top, no wonder he nicked me as I would have been riding on the wrong side of the road in to on coming traffic

S59 at worst. Sounds like it was a grass with a badge, and not a real policeman.
Basically, they can't prove shit, and they know it. I wouldn't even fill out any form they ask you to. Did you admit it? I hope not. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. The officer is mistaken, you know you didn't overtake the car until after you passed the junction as you wouldn't have felt safe to do so.... ____________________ Tristan the wrote: just whipped off my trousers to find a big bruise on my arse, caused by matt rear ending me... |
